Hello, I have a 92 27' Chris Craft concept. I am looking to put a system in for the summer. I think right now i have 2 6.5's in the cockpit and another set down below. I am pretty much sold on the JL Audio free air subs. Does anyone have any experiance with these. I want to push the most power out of these. EACH is 150w RMS and 300watt PEAK. What would i get for an amp then? a 300watt rms amp at 4 ohms? i would probably get just a car audio amp since i am not mouning it below.
Besides that i want to replace the 6.5's. I dont want to go with a 2-way since when people sit in the back the tweeter is right in their ears. i want a seperate system tomount the tweeter frward. the only JL audio component system has 7.7" and then a tweeter. should i just make the hole larger?
Any suggestions would be great.. I put a system together in my old buick in high school but don't remember much since then. Thanks for the input let me know if you have any questions. Right now for a deck i have a 1 yr old decent sony i would like to keep. thanks!

Looking at the boat trader listing, the pics are not complete but I see a speaker below the throttle and on the port side, head height as you described. Are there matching speakers on the starboard high and low on the passengers seat? That would give you three pair? Stereo typing older marine, there prob is not since most would have just been fed from the 4 channel HU. Two places you could add more sound?
The high location looks like it would be a tight squeeze to go from 6.5 to 8" but if you can do it, the extra cone area might help mids. I understand your theory not wanting the tweets hitting people in the ear but I would not worry about it too much. Wind and engine noise while running and partying while sitting lend to the high placement. I would count yourself lucky. The components are usually favored to get the highs up where you can hear them instead of down at the feet. Also check out the WetSounds 6.5 It is tough enough for that high, exposed plaement and gives great sound.
Not a big fan of free air, just does not give the thump of a box but if you are sold then go for it. I would look at building an enclosure under the bolster chairs or in one of the benches. 12's will sound better than 10's if you can fit it. port if possible for max sound.
I like the Rockford Power amps, Alpine PDX is also a class D, marine favorite. The class D's are more efficient which is great for long battery life while floating.
With any quality speaker and amp, match your speaker and amp RMS ratings. Consider if the amp is stable at 2 or even 1 ohm to maximize output. If you are waffling between over power or under, over power and turn down the gain.
