I'm looking into implementing a security system into my friend's(the one I have all _my_ audio equipment in, I can install) car, but I'm not worried about my car being stolen, but rather the equipment in it. I do not honestly think that with the crowd I'm worrying about would be startled with a standard honking car alarm of the sort. What else is to prevent them from breaking out my window, unlocking the trunk, cutting wires to my amp + unscrewing, etc besides attraction? The neighborhood that it is in would not give too much of a damn, and I'm worried about this case specifically because a friend of mine told me while in a crowd heard someone say, someone I knew even say "I want to know where the person that owns them lives" to his peers. So the suspected group would know I would have audio equipment, since I already have all internal servicing under lock and key, I'm not too worried about theft of the car. I have my amps, subs and enclosures well fastened to the car anyways, so if the person breaks in, finds out it's going to be a royal PITA to steal, just decides to strike the equipment once or twice with whatever. I'm more worried about the subs on that one, since they don't have 1/4"+ of aluminum plating over them...
I know, I was stupid and was not thinking when I was driving by the high school campus to wait at the church for a friend, while the church is just across the street and it was right at the final bell. Bleh, I was just listening to my radio not thinking.
The question: What's to keep them from stealing it if they didn't mind attention from a careless neighborhood?
I'm not seriously asking this but: Thought that comes to mind: Why don't I use a relay system in parallel with the alarm system that enables 1kW+ worth of tweeters at 16khz-18khz+ and ultrasonic tweeters when it goes off, other than legal factors? I think that would deter them unless they knew it was going to be there. I think I'll have to talk to an attorney for that one.

There is actually something specifically for that. Piezo Siren. 140+db in the high frequency range, SPECIFICALLY designed to HURT peoples ears. Put one in the cabin and one in the trunk, most people have trouble staying in the same big azz install bay as an active Piezo, imagine a car/trunk.

Hmm. Yeah, I totally forgot about piezoes. I think that would work just fine. Do you have any recommended models? Are there any legal issues with using these? Sure, my system isn't worth what a lot of others are worth, it wasn't that expensive out of my pocket, but I have about 150+ hours in just repairing parts(subs, amps), not to mention the install, but probably one of the best around here. Just kind of worried and don't want my effort to go to waste by some punk.

No legal issues, the normal DEI Piezos are great. about $20 a pop and $10 for a relay you can put as many as you can find places to hide them. The only things that are really illegal as far as car alarms go is going to be electrically charging the car to shock people, or anything else meant to do physical harm(projectiles, flame throwing exhaust(if you want a flame thrower to burn the guys ripping off your [censored], move to Mexico, its legal there). Piezos will hurt your ears, but no permanent damage unless you expose yourself to them for an extended period(like while jacking some [censored]).

The shop that does your alarm install should have everything you need.

Turns out the car I am installing in does not have a stock car alarm, I know very close to 0 on security systems when it comes to models/brands. What is a good recommendation for a controller? The "brain" if you would? I do not feel the need for anything more than the main controller that is compatible with a shock sensor/window break.
It turns out I had some piezos from some of my other hobbie's junk collection in the process. Big monster that is encased in 1/4" stainless cylinder with a face with 3/4" holes it appears, I opened up the case and it seems to be 7 of PROJECTS UNLIMITED - XL-1600, a tad bit taller and all together draws about 1.4A at 12V according to the handwriting on it. Seems that someone made this setup and I bought it in a box at one of the local hamfests.
I'm hesitant to power this up with me anywhere. (I'm tempted to put a voltage regulator, specifically says do NOT use anything above 12.2V, not sure why, it should just increase the frequency of the output...? Hehe, could use a small fullbridge PWM to switch it at a certain frequency being fed by a PIC or VCO...? LM1085IT-ADJ for the voltage regulator)
The question: What are some okay control modules with some functions mentioned above?
Thanks, Sam

So the shop should have piezo sirens?
I want to install one under the dash and maybe one in the trunk.
The one in the trunk would be hard to hide I think though.
