ok i have a 07 reg. cab f150 and (3) p3d410and a rockford t1000. does my truck have enough room to give the 3/p3's enough air space and what type of box will sound best. i currently have 1 p3 10 in a slot port box and it sounds amazing but i needed more. any pics and advice would be a great help

what do the P3's call for? sound line you have about 1.1ft^3 for each sub. If the subs call for 1ft^3, then you have enough space. Even if they call for 1.5ft^3, you will have enough. remember that when you put them all in the same enclosure they will see more than their share of the box.
With 3.3ft^3, and 3 subs, they will each SEE about 1.85ft^3. Because they are sharing airspace, they see more than just a third of the box.

recieved this reply on the rockford forum today I have to agree that you do not have enough air space to properly run 3 10s ported - only sealed...I would recommend "just" using 2 of those bad boys ported - they'll slam...now as for your question...

could the box being build taller give the room needed or am i way off?

No not in this case... I just did the math given the numbers you posted and, assuming 3/4" material is used, every 1" of additional height WITH THE SAME 7" TOP DEPTH will give you .18 cu/ft more room...now in order to run the P3 10s near their potential you'll need at least 1.25 cu/ft net per sub (RF recommends 1.40 net) and as such that means you'll need 3.75 cu/ft + about .25 cu/ft for sub displacement + about .40 cu/ft just for the port(s) (this is if you just use one 4" port 14" long per sub as recommended....) so you're looking at a NECESSITY of 4.40 cu/ft which means your box would have to be 5.70" taller with a consistent 7" Top Depth just to make it function at an acceptable level!! I'm sure you cannot gain this much room so your 3.36 cu/ft is best utilized to house TWO of your awesome P3's .....
If you elect to drop the third one (hey maybe this is your chance to upgrade the sub in that home theatre of yours?!) and use the 3.36 cu/ft this is how it should play out....
3.36 net subtract roughly .14 cu/ft for sub displacement subtract roughly .23 cu/ft for port displacement (using 2 generic 4" x 14" round ports as recommended...slot ports will take a little more space due to the 3/4" walls.) subtract .05-.10 for any bracing you may want to do You now have 1.42-1.44 cu/ft net per sub - picture perfect!

according to their need of 1.25ft^3 to 1.4ft^3, you will be fine. But they will hve to be sealed.

I'm in the process of writing a paper on it, but here goes:
When subs share a large enclosure, they see more than their share of the space because they HAVE more space. There is more space for the air to be compressed. If you have 3 subs in a 3ft^3 enclosure. Rather than seeing 1ft^3, each sub will see about 35% of the rest of the enclosure. each sub will see about 2.05ft^3 of airspace. The rate of compression is increased because each sub tries to use the entire enclosure, but the other subs are also trying to use that space. They all compress the air together, but air is compressed differently in a larger enclosure, so they see more air.

that is what i was thinking, but i've always heard otherwise. makes perfect sense and i'm sure that physics will support that idea.
any comment on the effect of cone movement and power handling?
thanks!

with the seats moved up a bit and the box built taller we managed to aquire enough room to get all three p3s in the truck! the only cons to having all 3 is that i didnt realize how rf'n loud it was going to be and that every thing in the truck rattles i cant play it loud and drive, its almost unpractical. put some pics up

soudn damping material is a necessity at this point. use some kind of foam to keep those panels in check

They all compress the air together, but air is compressed differently in a larger enclosure, so they see more air.
therefore you wouldnt need as large of a box? or would this mean, you need a larger box?
