i am about to do my front doors and put my mid-bass speaker there, and my ? is there ANY benefits using modeling clay over dynamat extreme on where im mounting the speaker?
i would think the clay over time would dry out and crack. but thats why im asking the ?, because, ive seen a couple people on this forum doing it.

i dont think its better than dynamat extreme, but prove me wrong ...im always interested in learning new and better things!!!

the clay we use is nonhardening clay. I used a layer between the baffle that the speaker is screwed to, and the metal door of the car. then i pushed excess up around the edges of the baffle, and covered all that in deadener to prevent possible running and to ensure it does stay soft. it helps to absorb vibrations from the speaker.

the clay most recommended is a white color and comes from dick blick's. i used some i got at hobby lobby. it stays soft up to 240 degrees.

this is great for an install, but goes hand in hand with sealing your doors well and making a solid baffle for the speaker to attach to.

exactly. it serves a different purpose than dynamat. you need dynamat (or another deadener) for different reasons. use the dynamat to seal and deaden the door. use nonhardening clay to isolate the speaker baffle from the car door.
