This is my first post! Woo!

Down to it, thinking of using the active crossover on my Alpine 7998. Has anyone run their setup this way? The crossover seems to be adequate to reproduce quality sound, they are 24 dB per octave. Wanted to hear some thoughts on this subject.

Wanted to run 3 amps total.

Sony XM-502x and Sony XM-752x for the tweets and midranges. The mids and tweets are actually a Cadence component set.

The sub amp, for the moment, is a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 1200.1 with basscube hooked up. This is driving two Eclipse Aluminum DVC 15's.

I'm interested more in quality reproduction of sound, rather than rattling everything off my car and blowing out my windshield!! Would love to do it, but I need to have my windshield, its cold outside in Wisconsin this time of year!

That's a nice head unit.

The only reason to not use the head unit crossover is if you have something better. 24db slopes are great. I don't remember what frequencies that head unit allows for high pass and low pass, but I'm pretty sure it's plenty for a nice two way setup. You should have no problem using it for tweeters, midrange, and sub.

It is a nice unit! Hopefully, I can use it for all its worth. Finally!

In 3 way mode the crossover frequencies are as follows:

The low range speaker's LPF is 20 Hz-200 Hz. Slope varies from flat, 6, 12, 18 and 24 db/octave. Level can also be set.

The mid range speaker's have both a HPF and LPF. Both are 20 Hz-200 Hz. Both have same slope adjustment as low range speaker. Level can be set.

The high range speaker's HPF is 1 kHz-20 kHz. Has same adjustable slope. Level can be set.

Guess I am asking the question to see if I can part with a Phoenix Gold EQ215ix that I am currently not using.

The Phoenix Gold piece has more EQ bands than the 7998. Other than that, there's no reason to use it.

Thanks Ttown! Trying to keep my gear down to very minimal.

Didn't want to run the 215 unless it was going to make a huge difference.

keep in mind that the crossover is performing a different function than the 215.

sometimes an EQ can make all the difference in the world, sometimes not. it all depends on the specific installation. you could always keep the 215 on the mids - as they would stand to use most of it. then use the internal HU's EQ for the tweeters and sub. but if you just have it flat now, then you might as well remove it.
