Hi guys just joined the forum but have been reading for a week or so. I have a Focus sedan and am beginning an install. I have a few specific questions and just want to make sure I am on the right track. Looking for a good sound for music and surround for movies.
I just bought 2 component sets Rockford Fosgate 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 p152s and p162s. 6 1/2 5 1/4 I am going with the 6.5 in the kicks and the 5 1/4 in the rear pillars. I think the enclosure I made is too small I will post a picture tommorow.
The tweeters I plan to mount in the a pillars aimed at the front passangers. Not sure why but the comps have 2 tweeters for each speaker..I will mount both in the a pillar to keep the sound stage up. I was only curious about aiming the tweeter because most I have seen are flush mounted on the a pillar instead of facing the rear.
For a center channel would it be alright to use coxials if they will be mounted in the center console? Since theyre coxial would they be overpowered by the front stage? and I suppose I shouldn't assume they will sound the same since they will have different freq range than the front stage...Should I only run one speaker or comp set for the center channel? I was thinking of going with the RF p152C. center channel? it only plays down to 72 hz. will i need more bass for a center channel?
I am waiting to figure out my plan for the center channel and then decide on an amp. 5 channel amps seem to be designed only for a sub so I guess I need a 4 channel and a small 2 channel amp.
I appreciate any tips and help and I'll try to link to some pictures tommorow.

you should experiment with tweeter locations first. get some adhesive velcro - put one side in several locations in the car - apillars facing across and angled back, the door, the kick, etc. then put the other side on the tweeters. leave enough wire to move around and listen to many configurations. try a tweeter in the kick and one at the apillar/dash. see what YOU like the best - plan on this taking several days so try to route the wire neatly when you drive around.
if you put the center channel in the console then it will need some serious time delay. also, will it be close to the screen? regardless, i wouldn't play it with music, just movies. a coaxial is fine - but you want as much midbass as possible so the sound is rich and full - a center gets over 60% of the information during a movie with 5.1.
i assume you have a 5.1 source?
you do need to make sure you give a kick mounted woofer plenty of airspace - it will always require some cutting.

(actually one of the 5 1/4s in the kick in this picture)
(6.5") i was thinking i could put the speaker right where the head unit is in that picture. I have another place for the head unit but dont really need it since i have the carputer. there should be enough room, the center console is going to be changed all around so the cupholder part will be gone. think that is close enough to sound like it is coming from the screen? I would say it would be alright for me. hell if someone says my name I pretty much look in all directions haha.
I guess I'll just need to make a new enclosure. I can make it deeper to the front of the car but there isn't much space between the stock panel and the car. Before I decide that Ill have to get the speaker sealed up good because i can feel the air around the ring when its playing.
the 5.1 source is a usb sound card that i need to play around with. about all i know is that it has outs for front, rear, and c/sub. so im guessing i can split the c/sub to a amp for the center channel and a amp for subs. but then i wondered how it would work for playing music. if it isnt in 5.1 i would have no signal for the subs. if its in 5.1 i can turn off the center channel but will the sound be the same as if it was only stereo?
I need to go ahead and get a 4 channel amp once i get my compnents in and then see what happens. and as far as listening for a while before I decide that wont be a problem as you can kind of see my car has been in test mode for a while haha.

you really want the center on the dash, putting it low will sound weird.
you'll need to cut out some metal to make the kick spacious enough. it needs to "vent" somewhere unless it's specifically designed for a small enclosure (which that speaker isn't). they are made to play into a door or trunk - lots of airspace.

If I used a component for the center channel with the tweeters above the screen and the mid below the screen would it work a lot better? Maybe I could even fit a 3-4" speaker beside the screen** and then have the woofer crossed over lower to keep from hearing voices from below the screen.
Also I found that the usb souncd card I have allows me to switch between 5.1 and 4.1 saved with a bias to the frontstage.
**wait a speaker next to a screen doesnt sound right the magnet would mess it up right?

speaker magnets affect CRT monitors, not LCD so much.
a decent 3.5" or 4" coaxial would probably suffice - depending on the processor's ability to let the front L & R take the bottom end. it's a small screen anyway. if you want HT do it in your house.
