Here is a pic of my monster tower/ Bimini top configuration
I want to spend around 500 to put up 2 tower barrel speakers and get rid of my terrible in boat speakers. Since the top of the tower is blocked, would it be a problem to place them on the sides? I want to have my wakeboarder and everyone in the boat to be able to hear them well while the boat is running. Which tower speakers/amp/wiring would you recommend to keep the whole package under say 600?
Also, I read something about using solar panels to charge the battery while the motor is off. Any more info on this?
Thanks ahead of time.

you can get the bazooka tubs for around $425. wiring will be a challenge. may be able to drill hole in the tower & run speaker wire thru, but will have to figure out way thru the hull.
i would put in a dedicated deep cycle for the stereo. that way u have dedicated battery for cranking, & one for music. install a battery switch to isolate them.

i would go w/ the 8", bigger will allow you to get more sound out of them. But depends on how much intrusion you want inside the tower.
as far as amps, the alpine pdx line is getting put in a lot of boats & what i am putting in mine. they are compact (which as you know in a boat you are limited on good install locations), priced decently, & put out good power. you could get a pdx2.150 for just those 2, or if you have other speakers u want to power off amp (better than head unit amp) or in future want to add more speakers, get a pdx4.100 or pdx4.150. you can get these for about $250 for the 2ch & $400 for the 4ch on ebay.
sub will depend on your sound preference, budget, & if you have the room to give up. in my last boat, i installed 2 10" in engine compartment, & it was too muffled. but i didnt want to give up storage under my rear seats.

I would go with the Bazooka MT8002CH. The compression horn makes all the difference when it comes to throwing the sound. Pizeo tweets just dont cut it once you hear the difference efficiency is 104 vs 90 db.

exactly - compression horns are much better for open spaces. there is no comparison.

I have not heard the 8002CH before but comparing even a single WetSounds 485 to quad cans, I would say "yes". From the little I saw, Looks like a pair lists $499 wich is the top of your goal, but half what a pair of Skylons or WetSounds cost.
The horns simply have much more throw to reach the rider. I see where Bazooka even has a mount that will rotate with the line as the rider cuts. The horns are directional enough, I notice a volume difference even with my system from the flats to behind the boat. The goal of tunes while riding is to motivate and get in the groove. It is a near impossible goal to recreate a full sound spectrum 70' behind a roaring boat so dont worry. While tied up you will still sound better floating in the water and then the sub and mids in the boat will help provide the full sound. Later you can always upgrade to a second pair of Tubbies or make the step to WetSounds. If you just get 4 standard cans, you are stuck.
Nice tramp style bimini. If you need more room, you can always invert the speakers above the bar with no problem.
