Kenwood 5120 and iPhone

So I installed a Kenwood DNX 5120 in my car and I love it. Its a great unit but there is one problem. When I plug in my iPhone to try to play music, it doesn't recognize any iPod being plugged in. I have plugged in my friend's iPods and they work fine, but my iPhone seems incompatible even though crutchfield specified that it would play music off my iPhone... Does anyone have any advice for me? I would greatly appreciate any help.

The only time I've had problems with my iPhone was if i left my iPhone in the car and it got super hot...I duno try connecting it slowly or restarting the player.
