Today CC had a meeting at every store company wide. For 77% of the stores, it was a standard run of the mill Holiday Meeting. For the other 23%, an 'Emergency Meeting'. This letter was distributed to the employees at the unfortunate 23%:
"This notice is being provided to inform you the Circuit City Stores, Inc. ("Circuit City") has made the difficult decision to permanently close the _____ store located at _______________. While an exact date has not yet been established for the store closure, it is anticipated that your employment with Circuit City will terminate on or before December 31, 2008. The exact date of your termination will be communicated to you at a later date. This employment loss is expected to be permanent.
Your health coverage under Circuit City's group health plan will terminate on the last date of the month in which your employment ends. However, you can elect to recieve COBRA continuation coverage for yourself and qualifying dependents under Circuit City's group health plan in accordance with the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act ("COBRA"). Such continuation coverage shall be at your own expense, and shall in all respects be subject to the requirements, conditions and limitations of COBRA and of the health plan of Circuit City, which may be ammended from time to time. COBRA election information will also be provided to you under separate cover.
Circuit City has not yet determined whether it will provide severance pay in connection with this layoff. You will be provided with further information at a later date. You will continue to be bound by the terms and provisions of the Circuit City Code of Business Conduct.
We invite you to apply for a position at another of our Circuit City stores. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 1-800-***-****. On behalf of Circuit City, we regret that this action is necessary.

it seems as if the stores that will be closed have been removed from their website's "Store Locator"

maybe it's just me but this termination letter wasn't executed very well...
1)they told everyone they'll be out of a job before christmas but didn't give an exact date
2)they said they're still debating on giving out severance pay
i foresee a lot of disgruntled employees and theft will be through the roof......

man that's pretty sad that our economy is that bad that a large chain is getting hit that hard. i feel for those people that got fired, what a crappy way to go.
