First. Is it alright to mount a crossover in the door panel? Im going to deaden the door and the panel. Dont want to jar anything lose in the crossover shutting the door. Any danger of this happing?

Second. Ive got some adapters for the door speakers. (5x7-61/2)
Do I need to put clay between the speaker and the adapter or just between the adapter and the door?

Thanks

I've heard of 1 case where mounting the crossover on the door may have caused problems.

I've seen a few installs the have the crossovers on the doors. If you look around cardomain.com you can find many more. I think a few of the resident experts (Team SD) have approved before.

My personal thoughts would be that closing a car door makes a large amount of force (Greater further away from the door hinge). Also the higher the quality of the components the better the build of the crossover. I think it would be fair to assume the cheap crossovers would fall apart much quicker from the force generated while closing the door.

Gibby is right, it could happen. I've seen people mount them in the door panel many times. I've even mounted them there myself and had some that never had a problem and others that did. The best option would be to go active and forget the passive crossover. The next best option would be to mount the passive crossover close to the amp. It needs to be accesible should you ever need to swap polarity etc. for testing.

I would use a foam gasket between the speaker and the adapter, and use clay between the adapter and the door panel. A custom made MDF adapter would be better than the plastic type. The goal is to isolate the speaker and it's vibrations from the door metal as much as possible, and to seal the speaker to the door.

i mounted my crossovers to the back of my fold down seats. it gives me access at all times and leaves them right near the amp to allow the shortest wiring possible.
