i have a jeep liberty and i am planning on installing a 5500 watt rms stereo and i cant seem to find what is the best way to upgrade my system i know the big three but what should i do about the battery and the alternator If it's truly 5500 watts rms then you're looking at drawing 400+ amps of current. My guess is, you're talking about some amp that is really overrated and actually puts out way less. If you're serious, you're going to have to tell what the application is. Is it for daily or for comp? 5500 for daily is excessive, but if you want to do it will require dual alts. I would say 6-8 (pwr + gnd) runs of 1/0 to the back and some nice batteries. You're looking at spending a couple grand just on your charging system. I have no idea why you'd want to do this in a jeep liberty. I'm sorry if I sound negative or skeptical, but if I do that's because your post made me feel negative and skeptical.

Ok here's the deal. You're going to be running at two ohm with these subs. They claim the amp will put out 1700 at 2 ohms and I would guess they are close. I would bet on 1300-1500. That's probably plenty of wattage for that sub. The amp will draw around 120-150 amps of current during that time. Multiply that times 2 and then add your 40-60 amps of current for your mid/high amp and you've got yourself quite a load. I still maintain that you will need dual alternators for daily or a battery bank if you're going to compete. You didn't ask for opinions so I won't give one, but I believe my initial speculation is accurate.
# Brutus BXi Series Class D Monoblock Car Amplifier # RMS Power Rating:
* 4 ohms: 850 watts x 1 chan. * 2 ohms: 1700 watts x 1 chan. * 1 ohm: 2600 watts x 1 chan.
# 12" Dual 4 Ohms Olympus Series Subwoofer # Power Handling:
* Peak: 4800 watts * RMS: 2400 watts
If this is for daily, then your charging system needs to be huge. Remember, you've got the load that is always there to run your vehicle. That is usually 50 amps or better depending on what accessories you have on. Then you have an additional ~300 amps of draw from your stereo at full tilt. Efficiency doesn't seem to be a concern here, so you're going to have to go all-out on your charging system.

yes, i would agree that if you really want to deliver that much power and maintain 14V (i.e. no dimming or battery damage) you should go with dual H.O. alternators and possibly a battery bank.
you'll probably spend more on the charging system than the audio system.
since i don't expect that to be in your budget - at a minimum do the following: dual 1/0 awg runs for power and ground minimal - fused at 300A. upgrade to a good battery under the hood. get at least get one upgraded alt - 300A, see if you can add that and keep the stock alt. get a battery bank in the back - kinetik, powercell, batcap, etc. install a volt meter at the dash so you can keep an eye on voltage - don't let it stay at 12V - 12.5V is the minimum you should maintain when playing music, 14V is optimal.
what will happen if you don't upgrade your alt and battery? you will kill your existing battery and suffer so much dimming and voltage drop that the engine will die during sustained bass notes. also, without the proper upgrade you'll nver attain those wattages - you'll be much less.
