Guys what do you think would be a better buy between these two subs? I'm looking for a SQ set up.

1 Image Dynamics IDMAX12CRD4
Powered by Alpine PDX-1.1000

Recommended RMS Power: 1000W

Peak Power Handling: 1800W

Impedance: dual 4 ohms

or

2 Boston Acoustics G512 ( crutchfield speical buy one get one free)

pwered by Alpine PDX-1.100

12" 4-ohm subwoofer
power range: 100-450 watts RMS

With the amp being the same, I would save around $100 by going with the two G5 subs, however I have heard great things about the IDMax12.

The enclosure and install will have a big impact on your decision. The IDMax can be installed infinite baffle. The Boston subs don't list that as an option. If I wanted an IB install, I would go with the IDMax sub. If you don't mind a sealed enclosure and can build the enclosure to specs, a pair of Boston subs may give you more bass than a single IDMax. I don't have personal experience with either, but I look for subs that can be used in an Infinite baffle install. In a "True" SQ setup, you are looking for natural sounding bass, not BOOM. In that case, I would lean towards the IDMax. I use the IDQ subs in my competition system, and they do very well. They can even get real loud if needed. Mine are 2 IDQ12V3's installed infinite baffle with a Zapco 500.1 driving both. I have to keep the sub level turned down for competition.

Robert is right. I have used both and both are great subs, the difference being what goal you are trying to obtain. If you are going for a true competition grade substage, I would suggest the IDMax, if you are looking at more of a daily use type setup I would suggest the 2 G5's. Honestly though it's one of those scenario's where given a good install you would be really happy with either setup.

those are two quality subs. what i like in box designs is like the fostgate's at the link below they got a steady line on the db/ hertz graph scale's. compared to the graph jbl's putout. all you see on every box is spikes and peaks for the jbl. when listing to sound quality i like the flatter lines like the fostgate because one note at lets say 45 hertz maybe 3 db + or minus what one at 50 hertz could be on the jbl. and i believe it 3 db for a noticeable distinction between notes. if this happens it is considered bad sound quality. most of all for music. check out what i am talking about at these links it the graph with hertz on the horizontal and db's on the vertical. but as we know now fosgates are not the best for sq though as say those subs listed there a little on the cheap side. for most of there subs lol. i like sealed over ported boxes for sq i just feel there better and so do a lot of others. feel free to do a ported sq box there hard to design though.

IDMAX. Easy choice. Use the single sub with all the power and save the space in your car/truck. These subs just plain rock! .9 cubic feet is all you should need. Just call ID and ask. The IDMAX can move some serious air and sound amazing at the same time. I'm currently converting a complete Boston system over to full ID. XS speakers, Q series amps and one IDQ 12. Of course we are also upgrading all the wiring and doing some sound deadening at the same time, but it will sound incredible when it's done. I've actually ran the IDQ subs with about 1100 watts and they took it with no problems. The one thing I can also recommend is to be careful with the PDX amp. I've had trouble running them at the 2ohm load. They seem to get hot and shut down. Hopefully Alpine has fixed this problem, but I haven't worked with them for about 7 months now.
