I have a 2002 dodge ram 2500 that had a factory am/fm radio with no cassette or cd when I bought it. The old radio gave up and I went to a junk yard and they sold me a factory dodge am/fm cd cassette radio of unknown year but had the correct bolt in mounting bracket. It worked fine for a few weeks but then started to click on and off. The clock keeps perfect time when the display is illuminated but while the thing is on(playing music) the power will click on and off including the display. It sounds like a relay switch is clicking. This issue is random and does not seem to be influenced by bumps in the road. It does not turn on and off for long periods of time like its drawing too much power. It will just click on and off sometimes 1-2 times every few seconds. I had the unit out today and the clicking is coming from somewhere in the depths of the dash.

Not certain, but I believe the 02 Ram was CAN Bus enabled. You will need the 2002 model head unit or get an aftermarket HU with the correct CAN bus enabled wiring harness.

I'm pretty sure it started way before 2007. My 2006 Ram HD has it. PAC made a wiring harness adapter that allowed me to put an Alpine 9887 HU in my truck with no modifications. When Daimler still owned Chrysler, they listed CAN interface in models all the way back to 2002. Again, I'm not certain of the year, but I know the CAN protocol was the standard for Daimler vehicles as far back as 1998 for some functions.
