Hi guys, new to the forum, this is really cool. Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me...
I am in the process of installing a system, most is in, wanted some input. My layout is as follows... all in a 97 Audi A4
Panasonic head unit 5v pre amp out 3 sets (fr,rr,sub) Front speakers: Cerwin Vega SS 5.2 Components 50rms each channel Rear speakers: Clarion 6.5" SRR1684 coaxial 40rms each channel Front speaker amp 2 channel 65w rms per channel Rear speaker amp same 2 channel 65w
Everything above is hooked up now, the 2 amps in the trunk are running off a 8 guage wiring kit that says its rated for up to 1500watt.
I have a dual sub box with 2 Punch 150W rms 10" woofers sealed.
I have not bought the amp for this yet.
Okay here are my questions: 1- Can I run a third amp (about 300rms) which will drive the subwoofers on the same 8 guage power feed? I know it says its rated for up to 1500W but I want to make sure.
2- My front and rear speaker amps have built in adjustable crossovers. Would you cut the lows from the front and/or rear speakers?
3- Right now my head unit amp is not hooked to anything, it is 18w rms per channel. Would you skip the third amp all together and hook the front and rear speakers to the head unit and bridge the 2 amps that currently run the fronts and rears and use them for the subwoofers? Power wise the amps bridged would match the sub pretty good.
I don't mind waiting for another amp for the subs if it will lose a lot of sound by running the four corner speakers of the head unit.
Again, thanks to anyone who participates.

I just thought of another scenario.... I don't really need 2 10" subs, I just happened to pickup a set of 10" all in a box used. What about pulling my rear speakers off one amp and running them from the head unti, and bridging that amp to 160w rms and run just one 10" sub. Then I wouldnt need anything else, The box is also seperated inside between the two chambers so I would just run a saw around and lose one of the openings and end up with a single enclosure. Then the size without carpet could go down so it wouldn't be noticed.... Hmm...

on running everything from a single 8 gauge wire, look up what the fuses add up to on your amps. if that number totals 60 amps, you need to either add another run of 8 or upgrade to 4. Personally, I'd upgrade.
your idea of using one amp for the subs and playing the rears off the deck is fine, just realize the rears won't be as loud.
since you have two 10's, you should use them. Theoretically two 10's with half the power should sound as loud as one 10 with double the power. Just make sure the box is the correct size for them. One other gotcha with that is make sure you can bridge the subs to the amp. If they're dual voice coil subs, this is no problem. If they're single voice coil subs, then you should just use one and build a box for it. Since you're running a single 10 with low power, you might want to look at a ported box to gain some extra output. Also play with aiming it different ways in your trunk to find out how it's the loudest.

i would add another 8 ga for the third amp.
when you add the subs, you'll want to high pass the other speakers (start around 80 Hz)
deck power = yuk
rears won't be as clear when powered by the radio. power supply sucks. this may not matter depending on how you like your music. some people use rears for ambience only.
two tens w/ X amount of power each would be louder than one w/ 2X amount of power, in the same enclosure. but one ten in a vented enclosure with 2X power would be close to 2 sealed w/ 1X per. it kind of depends on the impedance of the sub, and which sub/combination will extract the most power from your amp.
