hey guy's i think i decided on an Image Dynamics ID v.3...right in the price range and i can't find a complaint about them anywhere. So before i chose a sub i planned on just using any capacitor that is around 1-2 farads...but my question is is there anything in a cap i should be looking for? what makes one better than another? i'll be runnning an MRP-M500 amp with the ID sub which is 400 watts RMS. would a cap like this be fine?

A cap is not needed at all. If anything the Big 3 is what you will want to do but with 500w rms I highly dbout you will even need to do that. A cap is just another source for yor HU to power.

Big 3:

agreed. with what you are going to run, a cap will not be beneficial. use that money on better installation accessories such as quality wiring or maybe some deadening.

i forgot to mention that i have components in the front and coaxials in the rear running off a 4 channel 400 watt alpine amp which is why i thought i needed a cap...

nah, you still shouldn't have the need for a cap.

Regulator Lag

While many people think capacitors are "evil" or "junk" or even "voodoo", regulator lag is the only thing I'll reccomend them for. When you have a small and momentary voltage drop lasting less than a second, you can get the intended benifit from a quality capacitor. With a small, short "twitch" in the voltage, you may not face any real ill effect, but have an annoyimg blink to your lights. For many people, that's enough cause for alarm. So if you want to relieve some or all of this lag, check out the capacitor section and take the acction you feel appropreate. Regulator lag is unlikely to cause any damage to your car's electrical system and its not long enough to noticeably reduce the power output of your stereo system. If you can live with the brief twinkle of your lights, don't bother spending money if you don't want to.

just remember, when you add a cap you are adding another load to your cars electrical system. they are meant to make a strong electrical system that much better, not save a starving one.
