Car 1994 toyota supra
Putting a system into my car in winter, and have bought most of my stuff. I have a couple of questions on what i should do with my front stage and if i should run an active crossover or the crossovers that come with the components.
Subs: 2 x 12" Original MB QUart subs (germany)(400 rms ea) Amps: 2 x Kicker 550.3
The plan is to run one 550.3 per sub, and one amp per side for the front stage.
Front Stage: Alpine SPX-177R (6.5") Alpine SPX 107R (4")
Crossover active: MTX crossover (will get the model, it is a older model ive had sitting around for years, decent size)
Now what i was thinking of doing was installing the 6.5" components in the factory door location (making new brackets), and installing the 4" in the doors as well.
My questions are..
1) Does this make sense, and would it be a real 3 way-comp set??
2) Use 2 tweeters per door or jsut 1??
3) Should i use the alpine crossovers, or use the mtx active crossover?
4) Could someone draw my a diagram on how i would connect all of this using the alpine crossovers, as well as using the active crossover??
I am familiar with car audio/wiring, but have never delt with a 3 way or active crossover

you should use an active crossover in combination with the passives for the 107R set. you could have gotten the SPX-17MB to go with the SPX-107R - then you could have used the passive crossovers for everything.
at a minimum you can use the 107R passive crossovers but will need to have an active crossover to divide between the 6.5" and 4". i'm assuming you want to use the 6.5" as a midbass. unfortunately, the 17MB is more suitable for that purpose due to a much lower fs and flexible suspension.
the 107R set with passive crossover will need an active high pass crossover. the 177R 6.5" will need an active band pass crossover.
you do not need to use the second set of tweeters, but experiment with what location sounds best to you. you could install a set in the kicks and a set in your dash/apillar and switch between the two depending on the application.
if you have the ability and time you should locate that 4" mid in your kick panel. see the Team Sound Domain section (specifically Andy Jones vehicle) for examples of how to do that.
that kicker amp does not have a bandpass crossover function. you will need to use your MTX crossover in addition to the amp crossover for it to work.
to summarize:
one 550.3 will run the 107R with high pass out.
one 550.3 will run the 177R 6.5" with high pass out. the MTX crossover will need to feed those 2 amp channels a low pass crossover output (frequency coordinated with the 107R high pass).

finally, don't forget to install plenty of sound deadening and seal up those doors to get any midbass out of them.
how good it will sound will totally depend on your installation.
give the 4" plenty of airspace. if you locate it in your doors (not recommended) it will need a separate enclosure so the 6.5 does not affect it.
i considered this same setup, keep us informed with your progress in the Sound Domain Show-off section - take plenty of pictures during the install.
