Not sure what size you are dealing with, but I own an IDQ v3 10" and I've owned the 12w6v2. Between the two, I clearly preferred the 12w6v2. However, it needs a sealed enclosure, and I wanted to be free-air--so the ID sub is better for that.
I personally think the IDQ sounds better than the IDMax, but the max kills it in output.
Not knowing what type music you listen to, nor what power or enclosure type you are looking for, I would go in the following order:
1. JL w6 2. IDQ 3. ID Max
All are fairly readily available, so I would go find them and listen.

Not even a diffucult choice. Go with the ID. The JL is a decent sub if you just want something to beat on and don't mind paying extra for something that has been marketed very well to the public, but if you are looking for a real good sounding sub with amazing output from a small box, go with the ID. Either the IDQ or IDMAX. You can run either of these in a 12" in only .9 cubic feet. If you want some real serious output, you can go clear up to 2.5 ft. and port them. I know there are a lot of manufacturers out there claiming small sealed boxes with great performance, but I can speak from real experience that the ID's actually to work well in smaller enclosures. Go with the ID. You won't be sorry.
