should i put to my two subs they handle 200 rms and peak of 800 they are 8 ohm and basically what i want to know is what is the max wattage i can put to it (obviously 800 is) but without causing any damage to them because i know u can exceed the rms by some but my question is how much can u exceed the rms by before it starts to do any type of damage or quality diminishes?

If they are 200 rms then you need 200 watts rms to each speaker. it's not rocket science.

yea what steve said..... if they are in a sealed box i wouldnt try going too much more than 200rms.... but ported, its all about controlling how your sub(s) are behaving! dont over-drive them (flex), and dont cook em (heat).... good luck!

a ported box will restrict the sub's movement, as you play tones close to the tuning frequency, and vice-versa. cone movement increases as you play frequencies above or below the tuning frequency... for example, if your box is tuned @ 35Hz, then the sub should move very little when you play 35Hz tones (which CAN allow the application of more power, if your sub voice coil can handle the heat). however a 20Hz or 45Hz tone should have lots of cone movement..... thus, playing tones around 35Hz doesnt allow the sub to cool as efficiently as when its flexing more, increasing the risk of thermal failure (if you apply additional power at these frequencies). tones outside the tuning frequency, you run the risk of over-driving your sub if you dont monitor its behavior at high levels....
hope that helps....

sealed boxes limit cone excursion across all frequencies due to the pressure inside the box. cone excursion is resisted, requiring more power for full excursion.
the "additional power handling" assumed with a sealed box still needs to take thermal heating into consideration. a sealed box has less cooling than a vented box (for obvious reasons). give a sealed sub a lot of power and it gets very hot, extend that over time and you'll have a thermal failure.
in addition, a 20Hz tone on a 35Hz tuned box is a bad idea since the sub is "unloaded" below the tuning frequency which puts a huge strain on the suspension. you should have a subsonic filter on a vented sub.

subwoofer (speaker) ratings as provided by the manufacturer should be observed at all times if you want your gear to last for years.
be smart with the volume knob and always remember that a 200W amp rarely puts out 200W for more than a few cycles when playing music. music is very dynamic. you need to be careful with test tones.
