ok i was wondering if the orion hcca series subs are very underrated. right now ive got a hcca 12.2 powered by the orion hcca D5000 n im planning on getting a battery to power the amp alone which at 14.4 v puts out 5000watts. and the sub is 4000 watt peak. but i was also planning on putting another amp to that one sub. would that be to much power or no? need to know for next season of dbdragracing competitions. thanks for the help.

For short "burps" you might get away with more power on the sub. Just remember the voice coil has to be able to handle the heat. The RMS rating is usually what the manufacturer has determined the voice coil can handle before it starts to melt down. The peak rating is for short bursts only. Pesonally, I would want more of a safety margin so I'm not sweating about blowing a sub all the time.

It also has a lot to do with how much distortion you push through the amp. If you don't run any distortion, you may be able to do it. If you are running 10% dist, then that sub will probably last a couple of days. $\:\)$
