New to the forum... Cheers everyone!
I'm also fairly new to the car audio scene and I'm quite sure the folks who are installing my system are well aware of this. Not only am I having them build a custom box for my Jeep Wrangler but I was also planning on purchasing my subwoofer and amp from them as well..... until..... I discovered the sub they recommended to me online for $75 cheaper, free shipping!!! Naturally, I purchased the sub online...
(12" Shallow Mount Pioneer TS-SW3041D, 350RMS/1400MAX)
... and made the mistake of telling them right away. Now, they've turned completely sketchy on me and are doing their best to avoid telling me which make/model amp they are planning on using because they don't want me to save any more money by NOT buying it from them.
Besides costing about $250, the only thing they've revealed is that it's a Pioneer or Bostwick, 4-channel, fairly small in size, and suitable/powerful enough to push that sub IN ADDITION TO my AudioBahn 4" ACS2040N and AudioBahn 6.5" ACS2062N speakers.
Does anyone know what amp this could be??? Also, what other amps would anyone suggest for this application?
I am NOT IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER concerned with great sound quality. My desire is for my system to be LOUD... rather, for it to be loud when I need it to be. I'm not one who blares my music at red lights... looking around to make sure everyone near me is thoroughly annoyed... but I do want to be able to hear my music LOUD and clear when my Jeep serves as the beach-party's music source or when I'm doing 75 on the highway with my top down. Prior to this project, I had a 10" sub with 200 watts going to it (sub and amp both Planet Audio) and my Alpine deck pushing my 4 speakers... which sounded fine when parked or just cruising around town. But the wind completely overwhelmed it at high speeds with the top down.
I need something cheap, powerful/efficient, and the smaller in size the better.
Many thanks in advance for any and all advice! Larsen

buy from them. they are not ripping you off, you just bought a sub without a warranty. anything else you buy cheaper online does not come with a warranty. think about that before you try to save a few bucks - it can cost you a lot more in the end.
buy from them and they will help you if you have problems. buy online and you are totally alone.

The sub I ordered came with a 1 year warranty from a very reputable site which I'm sure just about everyone in the forum has at least visited, if not purchased from... I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.
Amp recommendations, anyone... please

The reason the shop doesn't want you buying on line has little to do with profit. If the sub is defective, or the amp is defective---you are going to blame them. Also they won't be able to finish the install because you will have to ship it back off, wait 4-6 weeks, then bring it back, and then hope it works. They don't know where the product came from, they don't know if it has been tampered with etc.
Basically you went from being a customer that they were going to do work for, and stand behind that work-----to being a potential liability and pain to deal with on every level.
No shop likes dealing with product brought from other places. It makes everything much more difficult to deal with.

Also--the above is right. You don't have a manufacturer's warranty at all. You have a waranty from a web site. A website that is probably run out of the basement of some kid's parent's house. it won't be an easy swap if there is a problem. It rarely happens that well.

I signed up to be a member of this forum because, prior to registration, I read questions in posts which were ACTUALLY ANSWERED and met with sound advice.
Granted I know these replies are meant as such but please refrain from the dip$#!%, smart@$$ one liners such as...
...you went from being a customer that they were going to do work for... to being a... pain to deal with on every level.
... and PLEASE recommend some amps to me!!!
The shop has done work for me in the past which included the installation of products NOT PURCHASED FROM THEM but rather through the same source from which I recently purchased the Pioneer 12". Those products were installed beautifully, worked flawlessly, and I saved a significant amount of money. It's a route I choose to take and a route which has worked out perfectly in the past.
Does the shop want to make money? Yes. There's nothing wrong with that. Does the customer want to save money? Yes. Why does that make me the bad guy and such a "PAIN TO DEAL WITH?"
Also, I think I can tell the difference between your "website that is probably run out of the basement of some kid's parent's house" and a trustworthy, legitimate business which HAPPENS to have a website. That comment could have been left out entirely.
It'd be great if ANYONE ELSE could please suggest an amp or two for me. May we squash the WARRANTY ISSUE? I did come to the AMPLIFIER section of the forum, did I not?
How about we start over and leave out any mentioning of the shop...
HI. I HAVE A 12" PIONEER TS-SW3041D (350RMS) AND SETS OF 4" AND 6.5" AUDIOBAHN ACS SPEAKERS. I WOULD LIKE 1 AMP... JUST 1... TO POWER THEM ALL. I'M LOOKING FOR RAW, CHEAP POWER TO KEEP THE SYSTEM LOUD THROUGH HIGH SPEED AND WIND BLAST AND AM NOT OVERLY CONCERNED WITH PHENOMENAL SOUND QUALITY. ANY SUGGESTIONS?? MANY THANKS! L

Thanks alot SubNit. I was hoping to be able to dish out around $200. Is that even possible? <if not, I'll buy from my installers>
Once again, I'm not too concerned with SQ. Even with a hard top on my Jeep, the roar of the tires and wind at highspeed will render any money I spend on GREAT sound quality a complete waste. Of course, I want it to sound good but I'm mostly concerned with having enough juice sent to my speakers to be loud enough to enjoy on the road. Also, I realize that multi-channel amps are almost always going to be large in size but my space is limited so the smaller the better.
