the music itself sounds great with my setup, but any word sung or spoken with the letter "S" in it comes from my tweets very harshly!! sometimes i can't even hear the high hat as a result.

i have an all alpine system:
CDA-9886
SPX-17REF component (passive xover is set at -3 db for tweets)
MRP-F600 4 channel configuration
(subs and sub amps not relivant)

would the addition of IMPRINT PXA-H100 sound processor resolve this problem?

probably. my type x have a similar issue, though not that bad. i dropped 5kHz and 8kHz to correct it.

my stuff that i got says if a vocalist has a problem pronouncing the letter "s" cutting the 3.5khz to 6khz can cure the problem this is the range for speech and to much cutting can make the vocals sound muddy also presence maybe added in the 1khz to 3khz range although 3.5khz-6khz is better suited for over all clarity.

in other word i agree with the pxa-h100 and what he said

3.5-6 could be it.

also start around 10 and work up and down.

the problem is you don't have any kind of eq to be this specific. With what you're running, turn the treble down some. \:p

the problem you have is called sibilance. It happens when a speaker is overdriven at a particular frequency. EQ can help this.

All the above suggestions will help.

The problem with the PXA-H100 is it doesn't let you adjust things yourself. It will likely be a lot better than what you have now, but theres not a lot of adjustability if you don't like the overal results. A good EQ like the H701 would help. Replacing the tweeters with a high end silk dome tweeter would also tame that frequency range a bit. It may take both to get the results you want.

good point Robert - the tweeter material has a large effect on it's sound. metal dome tweeters are typically "harsher" or "brighter" (unless you're spending a lot of money).

While not the most flexible of processors, the 'H100 DOES offer the old BassEngine Pro toolset in manual mode. 5 semi parametric bands, and a nice crossover, plus manual time correction.
Properly used, within it's constraints, it can be a handy, inexpensive tweak.

Now, on the other hand, there IS the H701... :>

keep_hope_alive, your a fan of TOOL music. next time in your car, play the song "H" from enema. in my car, the s's in that song are very loud and annoying. let me know if you have similar results.

i listened to H. this morning - sounded great. just a hint of sibilance when i zeroed out my treble and ran full volume. i keep 5k and 8k dropped 1-2dB and it's smooth.

FYI - the sibilance in H. is around 5kHz.

well, that settles it. no matter what i do with my treble on the HU, i can only do so much with the sibilance. i do have silk domes too. my next move will probably be that sound processor. thaks for the sound check!

i know enema is an old album, but just re introduced myself to it more recently. i forgot how good of an album it is for sound quality!
