So, today I finally was able to wire everything, and for about an hour it worked.
In celebration, decided to go to taco bell with a couple of buddies and later to the liquor store. I shut my car off and went into taco bell, when I came back out and started the car, I realized the sub wasn't working. I wasn't worried, figured that the amp overheated and it would eventually cool off. We went to the liquor store and I checked out the amp, it was perfectly cool. So I couldnt figure out what happened. I got back to my college and checked some of the stuff and it looked alright. I read that if your amp shuts off, than the ground and remote connections should be checked. So I checked them, While thinking that maybe the remote wire needed to be re-crimped, I inserted one wire, then went to insert the other and heard a pop. Now, my receiver doesnt work. I checked the receiver fuse, and the fuse under the hood of the xterra, it is all fine.
So now I'm stuck, what happened? has this ever happened to anyone?

real simple try the in cab fuse under your dash marked radio. it should be in your vehicle owners manual in the glove box. go to the index in the back of the manual and look up fuses or Fuse able links or some thing similar. in the manual it will tell you which fuses is for radio. some times it's the main power fuse like a 15 amp that's linked to a 5 or 10 amp radio fuse so examine all possibles.

how did you check the remote - with a DMM to verify voltage? if you shorted it out you could have damaged the head unit. after you replace any blown fuses go over your wiring looking for any bare copper that is exposed and could be shorting out - check behind the head unit too.

future note: never install with the car/system on or battery connected. always double check wiring with a DMM (resistance/continuity) before powering up.
as a quick test - unhook the remote, check voltage at the amp with a DMM, if voltage is present and good (>12V) use a jumper from (+) to remote to make sure the amp turns on.

btw if the fuse is blown and you replace it and it blows again do not replace it with a bigger fuse. does not mean it needs a bigger fuse if any thing it's still shorted in the back of the unit so check connections.
