I wanted to add a subwoofer to give my car a little bit of kick plus a little more volume (mostly Sound Quality). I purchased a Visonik VB210PKG, a two 10" sealed sub package and installed it in the trunk of my 98 mazda protege. I also added some Good pioneer 6x9 tweeter/mid/woofer speaker for the rear. I know the Visonik's are pretty cheap, but I don't know if I'm getting anything out of them. I have my radio cranked to max low (+9dB), min mid and high (-9dB) and I don't really notice anything when I change the SUB level. The visonik amp has been played with a bunch, the bass boost is at +18dB, the gain I've gone around half to full to see if I get anything. I feel like I might have had a little better bass before, but no real kick. The Low pass crossover is set around 60-120Hz (I've adjusted it some). Now I decided to check the subs out while the music was playing and the speaker woofers were blasting like crazy but I couldn't even tell if there was anything happening in the subs. I touched them and didn't feel them doing anything or notice a change in sound. The power light is on and I highly doubt the subs are wired wrong. The only thing I'm not sure about is the ground wire. I have it wrapped around a bolt attached to the frame in the back.
I'm sorry for such a long post but I was just trying to be thorough. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or are these just a piece of crap?

Never mind, I didn't have them wired correctly... The manual was the cheapest part. Subs work perfect. There's no way I wouldn't be able to hear 100-200 watts back there.
Also, for wire I bought some 16 gauge speaker wire. That's not too thin is it?

do not max or min your bass, mid, and treble settings. consider 3dB as the highest or lowest you should set them at. what you described has to sound awful. bass boost is the same thing, don't max that out, just use a little boost if it helps.
16awg is fine for speaker wire.
glad you figured out your wiring issue, always double check wiring.

Now that I have it setup, I'm trying to get the settings right. If I play some metal and stuff with a deep bass guitar it seems like the subs are still hitting some of those notes with the woofers. I have the gain down about 1/3 and the LPF is down all the way at 50hz. The other problem I'm having, which may be related, is in some quick bass drum triplets and groupings the sub will kind of just play them as one whole note.
If feel like these problems are because the equipment is cheap...What should I look at replacing to fix these, the speakers or the amp?
