for whatever reason, searching for "noise" turns up nothing on this forum... i cant imagine im the first to ask this question but i have a noise problem i cant really track down. if this is in many threads just delete this

99 ranger. new 120amp alternator. pioneer 400w rms mono amp, alpine 12" typeR running at 2ohms. kenwood 380w rms 4ch amp. pioneer hu w/ preout and sub out. 4 5x7 coaxial speakers.

the noise is constant. goes up and down with rpm's but the volume of the noise never changes. pretty damn loud when the sound is down, but music still comes through clean even though noise never goes away or changes volume.

my best guess is my HU still isnt grounded well. also, the power leads have come out of the connector that plugs into the back of the unit, im thinking those loose connections are causing noise too.

otherwise system is sounding good. first run was today and twice i smelled something that probably wasnt good. i cant keep my hands off the volume...

THANK. YOU.

I have the notorious pioneer blown fuse problem i guess. this unit was not grounded via chassis, and going by those links they say it needs to be or the deck will blow a microfuse that in turn causes alternator noise to slip through on most pioneer hu's.

the jerry rig fix is to ground the rca -neg cable to a good ground. worked like a charm. no more noise (dont care if this isnt good for the hu, its a pos anyway)

at the same time i also figured out how to add aux-in on this deck through the cd changer ports. i just cut small strips of speaker wire flush with the insulation and jammed that onto the pins. works great! my only problem is my ipod does not seem to put out enough voltage to even up with cd's or fm radio. full ipod volume makes it about half of what the radio volume is. can i make a rca line amplifier? or should i buy one?
