I know most of you guys retune before every comp. I’m curious if you ever null your settings out and start from scratch, or if you continuously build upon your settings based on feedback?

Seems like it might be good to start from scratch occasionally. \:confused\:

I just make the RTA look like a big smile and be done with it. \:confused\:

I build on things and work on where I got low scores or comments that need change. I rarely have the time to just start over. That would be the dream.

Why do you say it would be the dream? That's what I"m trying to get to, so maybe you'll be able to explain for me, why it might be best to restart.

I was just thinking the practice and repetition would be nice for someone new like me. If I said I could sit in a car and pinpoint frequencies that needed to be fixed, I'd be lying. I suppose it's something you build up to and I would imagine the practice of starting over would really help. Though I could see time being the constraint.

during the peak of the season you could go to a show every weekend, and i almost did. there's no time to start from scratch when you can spend a couple of days just trying to iron out one section. the most efficient thing to do is to build on what you have, then do an a/b comparison. if you start at preset 1 as a base, make a few changes in one specific area, save as 2, make other changes to a different area, save as 3, etc etc, you can go back and listen to what you liked best about different presets and get the best from all. maybe something you did while working on one problem actually helped another problem too, but you didn't directly think about it. anyways, that's prolly the most efficient way to do it. if you didn't have a job, you could go back and start from scratch, but really, why would you want to? maybe zero everything out and do an a/b comparison to see what it used to sound like, that's about the only reason i would.

I have gone back to zero many times, but since my memory is stored on the computer I could go back and check from different shows to compare. Compare best and worst scores from a show or judge. The only flaw with this plan is not backing up your hard drive. ooopppsss!

Usually when the season first starts out Ill start from scratch after each show and A/B it with the previous curve and see how it compares. But as the season progresses and I get it more and more dialed in and the bigger issues taken care of Ill start working on the details.

Time is the biggest issue. it seems that as the season gets going so does everything else in life. Trying to find a few hours where I have nothing I should be doing is just hard.

I would love to zero out right now and start over--and will likely be doing so. It scares the bejezus out of me.
