I am an audio newbee but I do know that the way it sounds now is like crap. I have a 99 LT Sub with the Delco Tape Head Unit with a factory remote CD. This truck has 8 speakers I have tried to do my research but like all things GM you are both astounded by their brilliance and stupidity at the same time. I don’t want to spend over $300 nor do I need “pro” sound I just want to be able to crank the radio and overcome wind noise.

Head Unit: From all research it’s hard to beat the Delco unit I have for price/performance with it putting out a clean 100W through 4 channels. So I plan on keeping it but I do have some burned out lights and from what I can tell they are a Royal PITA to replace, I may try to pick up a new HU on Ebay.

Front/Rear Doors:
Buy four of these Kenwood 6.5” 2 Ways and forego the factory “tweeter”
KFC-1660S
35-22,000 Hz
2-35W
92db Sens
4 Ohms

Cargo Area
Most research indicates that the rear 4x10’s no matter how much $$ you throw at them will never sound “good” so I was going to use speaker level inputs to drive a powered sub like this

KSC-WD250T

I think that I will get much better sound from the powered package but I hate to “waste” 2 channels

Thoughts suggestions?

you are overestimating the capabilities of the Delco unit. the factory HU will do a poor job powering any aftermarket speaker. an aftermarket head unit will still offer low power output as compared to a separate amplifier.

locating cheap coaxial speakers in the doors can sound worse then the factory separates. tweeters firing at your chins behind plastic are not very effective. an entry level component set (like Alpine, rockford fosgate, etc) will offer better performance.

as far as rear door speakers, a coaxial makes more sense here but you'll still have better performance from a component set.

unfortunately your budget is too low for a complete system that includes good component speakers. coaxial will sound better than stock, but not by much. at least give yourself components in the front.

don't install a 4x10 speaker, they are a waste of money.

as far as amplification : buy one 4 channel amp. use channels 1 & 2 to power the four door speakers (component or coaxial). use the rear channels to power a subwoofer. that is a simple setup that can give good results.

don't try to build an entire system for $300. most of us spend that much on each piece. instead, make wise investments. don't add a sub yet, that will cost at least $300 including the amp, sub, box, and wiring.
