I'm looking to build a new box for my jl 12w6v2. I've heard some good things about jl's ho box... dont think I'd want to pay that much for one though. Has anyone ever attempted to build something simular for their sub?

the only thing that's unique is the chamber coupled port. i don't know if that has it's own tuning or not. I have a dual 12 JL HO box in my basement right now. i've seen the exploded views - not too difficult.
the w6 is a small enclosure sub - not ideal for the HO design.

it's a good thing you don't want to buy one, since they only fit the w7's. i've experienced excellent results with large vented boxes w/ the w6's. i'm unsure of the exact effects of the "diffusion chamber", but cosmetically, they are appealing. plus, you don't have to worry about stuff getting stuck inside your enclosure.
what do you have now(car, enclosure, power)? and what are you trying to accomplish by changing your current setup?

the new ones fit a W7. the older models had a wider range of subs. you could probably build one for some w3 subs.

Well JL makes an H.O. that comes preloaded with one of my subs. I was refering to making a replica of one of those...? But yeah, I have an '02 WRX, single 12" jlw6v2, and an alpine mrd-m605 for my amp. As far as my expectations for what I want... I'm lost as to which way to go. I really like how jl sounds both sealed and ported. I like how accurate and tight sealed boxes sound, but I love the output of a ported box.

two sealed subs gives you more output.
