Sup everybody, im new here. just looking for some info and insid=ght like everybody else. but straight to the point now, i have a 99 nissan altima that im trying to hook up with better sound. but not just any sound, im really tring to knock the block down.lol. im really trying to stick to alpine but if you guys can think of something that may be a lil better then by all means let me know.. but here is the setup i was thinking so far:
Alpine IVA W205 headunit Alpine sps600c component speakers Alpine SWR-1242D subs
you guys can tell me which amps to purchase and what numbers i need to look at in order to achieve a really knocking system. also i now i need to get a compacitator (i think i spelled it right) but dont know what to lookf for with one of these either. thanx for taking the time out to read this post and answering if you. i was getting tired of relying on my friend who knows a lil something something about car audio systems because i didnt want him to set mines up and his be louder then mines, then he'll "be like well thats the best i can do with it" so thats why i chose to learn for myself and ask you guys.

i havent really thought about my budget all that much, and i dont currently own anything, everything in my car is stock and sucks. But im guessing that my max is like $2800, is this too low to make a knocking system? and when i say knocking i mean out of ten people that pull up next to me at a stop light, i want to be louder then at least 7 of them, lol. let me know what you guys are thinking

yea, that was assumed.
how much louder depends on the ten people and their knowledge and budget.
the most important part of the system is the installation. it doesn't matter how much you spend if it's not installed properly. as far as loud bass - it's all about the enclosure and available power. set aside some money for sound deadening and a solid enclosure.
what are you driving and how much space are you willing to sacrifice?
My first suggestion is to spend less on the head unit and more on the speakers and amps. a fancy head unit will not make it louder. Alpine is a fine brand with plenty of potential.
You will want 15" subs - two of them. Put them in the right box and it'll bang pretty damn hard. Type-R is fine but Type-X is better. They aren't SPL subs nor SQ subs, they are in between. I agree a PDX 1.100 and 4.150 are the right amps. I would go with Type-R components or better (not Type-S).

ok i feel you, cuz that makes sense. i guess i wanted the 205 for bling and "turn head" factor. But out of these two 15", Alpine SWR-1522D(TYPE R)and Alpine SWR-1542D(TYPE R), which one is better?? the only difference is one is 2ohm and one is 4ohm (does that really matter)

yes, the impedance matters very much.
you need to decide on an amplifier for those subs (based on their power handling). then buy the subwoofer model that allows for the proper final impedance load.
Two 1522D will only let you get a 2ohm mono load. Two 1542D will allow a 1ohm or 4ohm load.
The higher ohm the better (more control, stability, and longevity). so as far as the amplifier is concerned - a 4 ohm load is better than a 2 ohm load which is better than a 1 ohm load. I think that 2 ohm is fine but i avoid 1 ohm loads (unless the amplifier is very carefully selected) since it is so close to a short.
most amplifiers make their rated power a 2 ohm. Some make it at 2 or 4 ohm. The PDX makes 1000W at both 2 and 4 ohm. If you get the 1542's then you can wire both of them for 4 ohm, and give them 500W each from the PDX 1.1000. If you ever want to change to just one then you can wire a 1542 for 2 ohm and give it 1000W. FYI - two at 500W each will be louder than one at 1000W (assuming both situations use optimal enclosures).
'bling' don't mean anything if you ain't bangin' son! get that sh1t hittin' heavy THEN get a fancy HU.

two PDX 1000.1 will be louder, but will require a couple hundred be spent on your car's electrical system. an upgraded alt and good battery at a minimum. all power/ground 1/0 awg wiring - including upgrading factory.

Upgrading those parts (alternator, battery, and 1/0 awg wire) of the electrical system would run you around $500. Just throwing it out there that the installation steps you should complete: including wire (power and speaker), RCAs, sub enclosure, and initial electrical upgrades can run you >$400.
Sound deadening could cost from $100->$500 depending on how well you do it and if you do it yourself.
It all should fit into your budget but upgrading the electrical system to support that second pdx 1000.1 will really stretch the initial budget.
You're definitely on track to make a good stereo system. Good luck.

im not sure if im followin you right, or reading it right. can you explain what you mean when you say sealed off with the cabin and ported into the cabin? would i have to cut my rear deck? or is all this just in the box construction?

IB explained
that image is an example of being sealed off with the cabin - the back wave cannot make it's way back inside. sealed with the cabin is easy if you have a rear arm rest in a sedan. cutting the rear deck is another option but is more time consuming.

my sub is sealed off with the cabin - firing through the rear arm rest.
notice how my sub box is separate from the front baffle. just build the box to suit the subs, face them forward, build a baffle to seal them off against the top, bottom, and sides. also seal up the rear deck.

but my seats do fold down one by one and there is a hole there.

yes, not having an armrest will matter if you do it like mine. granted, the bass will just make it's way through your rear seats. If you remove any of the hard cardboard backing to the seat it should play right through easier (but then your subs are hidden). you want to go the rear deck then.
baffles will make it sound better by controlling the waves better - but aren't needed to be loud. you can just toss a box in the trunk and be loud - but you might sound like ass. as a result of this baffle i eliminated any trunk rattle (which was already minimized with foam and deadener).
i'm not much of a carpenter either. my baffle was pretty crude, see all the progress pics here: http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/1369669/page/1/fpart/1
