I own a 2003 Saturn Vue with mostly factory sound and am looking for a recreation/commuting sound upgrade. So I probably won't do too much road noise deadening, it isn't that bad, plus I have plastic doors. I wanted to get two sets of components one for front and one for rear to fill in more highs in the back, it will take some custom mounting...
The car accepts (4) shallow mount 6.5's in the doors(deep ones can fit w/ a bracket) and approx (2) 1.5" tweets up front. I already have 2 infinity kappa 10" woofers(275w-rms 1000pk) in a q-logic bandpass case, and am looking for an amp upgrade for those too.
On to my amp(s) of choice (so far): Facts pulled from http://www.audiodiscounters.com ----------------------------------------------------------------- Choice 1: * Top of the line Components * Heat Management System * High Efficiency Mosfet Power Outputs * Built in Low Pass and high pass and by pass CrossOver - adjustable @ 12dB per octave * level control * input sensitivity control * bass EQ - 45 hZ - 12 dB per octave * Bridgeable * Illuminated Logo * Class A/B * frequency response: 20-28KHz * 2 x 1040 Watts @ 4 ohms * 4 x 520 Watts @ 2 ohms * 4 x 260 Watts @ 4ohms * S/N Ratio: Greater than 95 dB * THD: less than .05 % * Adjustable input voltage: 11 - 14.4 volts * dimensions: 15.75" x 2" x 9.5" inches
Weight 10.00 lbs Price: $139.95 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Choice 2: * 2,400 watts dynamic power * Top of the line Components * Heat Management System * High Efficiency Mosfet Power Outputs * Fully adjustable Built in Low Pass and high pass and full pass CrossOvers * Bridgeable * protect light * Bass Remote Control * Illuminated Logo * Class A/B * frequency response: 20-28KHz * 2 x 1200 Watts @ 4 ohms * 4 x 300 Watts @ 4 ohms * 4 x 600 Watts @ 2ohms * 60A Fuse * S/N Ratio: Greater than 95 dB * Input voltage: 11 - 14.4 volts * Adjustable Input sensitivity: .2 MV - 5V * bass boost control @ 45 hz - 12 dB * dimensions: 15.75" x 2" x 11.5" inches
Weight 13.65 lbs Price: $159.95 -----------------------------------------------------------------
Yes I have read the post's in the forum about Quantum Audio and know that they probably don't put out that kind of power, I am planning (for my wallet's sake) that they put out much less. Components that take over 120rms cost $$.
I looked at Fusion Audio's PPCM650's till I heard that they are in tight with Best Buy then died a little bit inside, plus saw people comparing them to Boss. Or I could just get some Megaloud coaxials all over... http://www.caraudioamps.com/products.html
So what components would go best for these amps at less than $300 for two sets?

what brand speakers/components have you listened to? what have you liked? avoid coaxials if possible.
keep in mind that you forfeit any warranty going to online retailers (other than Crutchfield). pay less and you get less.
$150 per component set is pretty low. You could probably find an Alpine Type-R in that price range online.
at that budget i would be looking at used quality amps.

you find plenty of component sets for under $150pr. are you looking at those amps for the subs? are you going to amp the components too? yeah you can definitely find the type-r's for less than $150.

Yeah, I have been trying to find information on these amps cause they look like too good of a deal to be true, they aren't too expensive so I might try 'em out, I will have my eye on craigslist though.
But heard good things about Megaloud so will probably look at those for 6.5" coax in the rear. http://www.audiodiscounters.com/shopping...n&manufacturers[0]=33&page=1 As for the front Crutchfield has a deal on Polk db 6501 http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/I...tures_and_specs
Sorry I didn't post the amp's names! here they are: choice 1 = Quantum Audio QA4260 choice 2 = Quantum Audio QCA4300 @ audiodiscounters they come with a 1 year warranty (as do all their products)
Thanks for the replies! I'll be riding over to radio active sometime... Thoughts on Quantum?

just because an online retailer says it has a warranty, doesn't mean it does with the factory. always call them first to verify.

I will keep looking around for deals, but in the meantime I think I will instead install some second skin Damplifier, and Luxury Liner all over... speakers will be next summer

Good move. You'll need that regardless of what components you use. The Second Skin will make the car more enjoyable even with the stereo off.

just because an online retailer says it has a warranty, doesn't mean it does with the factory. always call them first to verify. Why would it matter if it's with the factory manufacturer or not? If the retailer is giving you a 1 year warranty, you get a new amp if the first one goes bad. A warranty is a warranty. Honestly, the warranty all comes down to personal preference. Some care about the factory warranty and some don't. I happen to buy my products from authorized dealers so I get the factory warranty. I would rather spend a few extra bucks and have a little bit better of a warranty.
I will keep looking around for deals, but in the meantime I think I will instead install some second skin Damplifier, and Luxury Liner all over... speakers will be next summer Good choice on deadener. I just finished putting some in my car and love it. You will be very happy.
Don't rush into buying anything. Listen to as many sets as you can and buy what sounds best to you. Take your time and save money for nice equipment.
