I'll try to make this as brief as possible. I'm looking for a set of 6.5" components in the $200 range to go in my 07 Dodge Ram Quad cab. I have a roll of raamat that I will be using to deaden the doors and will be making a mounting ring out of mdf for the mids in the door. I'm thinkin about picking up this: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=17194 (alpine pdx 4.150 150 watts x 4) to power the components and the rear speakers (stock for now, will possibly upgrade later. Using the rears because I have a dvd player with 5.1 surround sound that we watch movies on).

As far as the sound I'm looking for....I'm looking for something that has a nice "rich/smooth" sound if that makes any sense. I hate speakers that have ear piercing harsh highs. Good detail is definitely nice, but just not harsh. So far, these are the sets that I'm considering:

Image Dynamics CTX65CS
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=6201

Diamond Audio S600s
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=11755

CDT Audio EF-61FG/TW25 PRO
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=4630

(seems like there's a million different combinations of cdt components on woofersetc. I had a set of cdt's in my expedition that got totaled but i can't remember exactly which ones they were, but i know i liked em)

Alpine SPX-17REF
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18520

Cadence CVL-6K
http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=6030

That's my list at the moment. At this point I'm slightly leaning towards the image dynamics set. I don't really have any dealers within a reasonable driving distance to go listen to any of these (mostly just the big box stores around me). So I'm open to any input/suggestions.

The best thing to do is to listen to as many as possible and see what you like best. The Type-X and the CDT and ID are all nice sets. I have owned the CDT set you listed but used a different cross over and i liked it alot. Woofers does an awful job organizing their CDT stuff. There isn't as much as woofers makes it out to be. Plus they have alot of the old stuff on there and also alter the packages with different tweeters and crossovers.

I wish I could listen to em all, but like I said, there aren't any places that sell those brands near me

You are in a suburb of Chicago. Just about every brand sold is available in the Chicago area. Grab up a phone book and look under "stereo". Make it a day trip listening to speakers and talking to salesmen and installers. It's a lot of fun.

What about the ID CTX69? Amazing sounding speakers for the money and you could keep the mid and tweet on the same plain instead of wasting that big 6X9 hole in the door. Deaden those doors, run some quality speaker wire and put the ID speakers in there with some real power behind. I would say somewhere in the 100 watt range. These speakers will totally come to life and really sound phenomenal if you do it right. If you have any doubts, just call ID and ask them. I'm sure they will talk to you.
