Ok I just bought a 2005 Chevy Cobalt LS coupe. I'm looking to replace my speakers. I have 6.5" up front and 6x9" in the back. What do y'all think I should get? No I am NOT buying a component set and I'm leaning towards Infinity or Alpine.

At that point, you really are not going to have any huge drastic differences. Go to your local shops and listen to what they have on the board and buy what you like. No need to do a bunch of research, just trust your ears and go with those.

Ok. Let's say that I do go with a component set, which would you choose: Infinity or Alpine?

totally depends on your expectations. they are both "good" but sound totally different.

Don't limit yourself to those two brands. Looks like you are a new member here. I would spend some time reading here about other brands you may not be familiar with. You will find there are speakers out there that are better in the same price range, you just may not have heard of them. Infinity seems like the internet "go to" speaker company. They are decent, but there is much better available. Alpine does a good job, too, but you will probably pay more for the name. However, if you're just looking for a quick fix, get whichever meets your budget best.
