well i just bought a jeep winter beater and im puttina system in it. Im using a pioneer head unit that was in it and i have a pioneer 760 watt 2 channel amp from my old system. i have my full wiring kit from my old car and my 1 farat cap. i just bought 2 subs and they r pioneer premier's 1200 watt 500 watt rms. my question is i dont know how to wire them up b/c they r 4 ohms i belive and they have 2 ports on each sub b/c they r dual magnets. i think my best bet would be to get another amp but my friend told me there is another way to just wire them both to my amp. anyone help me out please??? i think my friedn said to wire both ports and bridge both negatives and both positives on the other end and use in 1 channel on each sub??? he said it is gonna just draw more power form the amp but im not sure...

in the picture of my subs wen i bought them it has the 4 ports on the sub in a line like pos. neg. pos. neg. in the picture it has a cap over the 2 middle ones leavin a possitive and a negative on the outsides. maybe i can just use those 2 or is it better to use all 4 ports? still reasearching hoping my 760 watta 2 channel amp is enough for the 2 subs i hope so... any help is appreciated.

if you have two dual 4 ohm subwoofers, you want to wire it like this to a bridged 2 channel amp:

DO NOT WIRE THEM LIKE THIS:

your friend is suggesting 2 ohm stereo wiring, where you do this:

CHANNEL 1 SUB 1

CHANNEL 2 SUB 2

If they are dual 4 ohm coils then you will run the amp 2 ohm stereo. Just like KHA said in his last post.

got an update need a couple questions answered please... anyway i was trying to wire up two dual 4 ohm subs up to 1 amp but since the jeep has been in the shop i got it back and i decided to buy another amp... so now each sub has its own amp and i beleive i have it wired right... pretty much each voice coil gets its own channel on each amp. anyway i bought the dual amp kit and im trying to figure out do i have to run another set of av cables from the deck to the new amp?? and also another remote wire?? or can i run the remote wire from the 1 amp to the other... will that work? and i have a cap and how it was wired before was off my power wire went a bistribution block to 2 6 gauge wires 1 to 1 amp and 1 to the cap... can i run the 1 power off of it to another distribution block and run 2 6 gauge wires off of that to my amps?? and i now have to ground 2 amps and a cap do they all need serperate grounds or can i use 1?? thanks for the help

you can run the remote from one amp to the other.

you'll need to split the RCA's with a Y-adapter if your amp doesn't have an output.

not sure what you're trying to say with the cap, you lost me. is the distribution block fused? a picture of the dist block would help. if the one you have isn't flexible enough buy one that will do all you need, don't add another.

what size power wire do you have coming into the dist block?

the owners manual for that cap has a wiring diagram - download it from the manufacturer's website.

ok cool well as for the power i originally have a 4 gauge from engine running back to a dis. block... it splits inot 2 6 gauge wires... 1 originally runs to the amp and 1 to the cap... now, i am running another amp so on the first distribution block i have 1 6 gauge running to a cap... and another running to another dis. block. i needed the second block for my new amp so im thinking now the 6 gauge running to the new dis block is splitting into 2 more 6 gauge going to each amp. its kinda confusing so main wire to a dis. block... splits to 2 wires 1 goes to cap other to another dis block with 2 wires coming out both going to amps...

you should really post some pics of this to help paint a better picture. it sounds to me like you have some issues in your wiring.

ok, i understand now. don't do that. you're running both amps through one 6 awg wire.

get a new distribution block that has more in/out so you can wire it correctly.
something like this:

yea im gonn aget somehting like that that would be perfect. i am running basically 4 gauge to 2 6 gauge to 2 6 gauge again so yea. but anyway i got it hooked up today and it works good. i had to mess with the amps for a lil bit and play with it but its sounds good and loud. im gonna upgrade some things in the future probably some wiring. but all in all its in and it sounds good i appreciate the help. i had a quick question about a couple of the controls on my amps though. like the lps or lph or wat eva it has a switch of on and off seems to make vocals louder with off and more bass wiht it on. then i have a turn nob that controls sumthin else i wish i could look at it im not near it. it was in numbers like 5.6 all the way up and like .04 all the way down...

you want the LPF on, it is your low pass filter. it will allow only sub bass frequencies to be played by the sub. the knob you are describing sounds like the input sensitivity, or better known as the gain. you need to set that based on the output voltage of your headunit.

How To: Properly Set Your Gain

you can get rid of the cap... also, do The Big 3

here is some info on upgrading your car's Electrical System

here's a little info on why i told you to Ditch the Cap

i wanna do the big three but i just seen sumthin that troubles me. i was reading through some old posts on cap installs and i seen them saying u need to has ur power go to cap first them off cap to ur amp(s). i have mine hooked up the way 1 person had on there and he said it was ok if it works. everything works that i have but i wondering if i hook up my cap dif. it will work better. i currently have power to dis block that splits to cap and another dis block that splits to 2 amps. i think i may try running straight to cap and them off cap to dis block to 2 amps? and all grounds seperate.?
