whats up sound domain? i have a question, i just bought a new amp- Hifonics bxi2008D -only thing is, it doesn't have a fan, only heatsinks... so should i get an external fan installed? do you think its necessary? if so what kind would you suggest?

where are you mounting it? if it's covered or you have problems with it overheating, you might want to get a fan.
the best way to wire one up is to use a relay.

if you are running it at a minimum impedance load a fan will help as well.

yeah i am running it at low impedance- 1 ohm
i have had two failed amps in the last three years, they both had internal fans though,
i live in phoenix az it is hot all year round
i'd be mounting it next to the amp on top of the box in my trunk

in that case, get at least two fans on the amp. if you can extend A/C tubing to your trunk that would help.

yeah, any kind of circulation to the trunk will help immensely. I'd think a squirrel cage fan on each side would be more than enough, esp if you have amp mounted in a rack to force the airflow over the fins of the heatsink.

i agree squirrel cage fans are great for amps. compact with a lot of CFM.
