Polk Audio MMC5250 for $ 179.99
MTX Audio TX5001 for $ 150.00

Thanks

These will be for the back of car. I want it to sound clear and crisp, smooth not harsh.

I listen to different music, mostly hip hop

I would match them for the rear - you want to keep tonality consistent.

I think the real questions should be, why use rear speakers at all? Why not just run that amp two channel and get those Diamonds to sound as good as possible? 50 watts rms isn't that much power and I'm sure they would sound much better with twice to three times as much going to them. However, if you must have rear speakers, what kind of car? Why not just use a basic coax since it is for the rear fill anyway? I would save the money and get the MTX TDX5202. The Polks are nice, but over priced and really don't sound that great in comparison to other speakers in the same price range. You should easily be able to get the MTX speakers for less than $100 and be more than happy with them. Just my $.02 though.

if you're going to have rear fill, it does you no good to have it sounding like crap. most people with rear speakers don't use them for "fill" anyway - the fader is still centered or even to the rear. "rear fill" is hardly ever done correctly, and I agree rear speakers are not necessary. however, people want them and will get them anyway. as such, i will always suggest that all the speakers in the car be of equal quality and match tonally since they will inevitably be played at the same volume. the result will be a better sounding system overall.

The general consensus is that it should be very low volume and delayed around 20ms. It should add ambience to the music. The intent is for the rear speakers to reproduce the sound of reflections from the back wall of the recording environment. I don't use them in my car and rely on the real reflections from the back glass to add the ambience. I've heard a few cars that did use rear fill and did it well, but I have no idea what methods they were using.

If you hear the lead singer behind you, you have it all wrong.

That is a good summation.
