So it looks like I am going to be needing a bigger alternator but maybe I am wrong... The stock alternator I have is 120amp. I got a 2000watt rms spl amp, a 400amp power acoustic capcell, and 2 15" 1100watt rms spl subwoofers. I also replaced all the interior 6x9 with spl's and ran them to my new pioneer head unit. ANyways we hooked up the amp and turned everything almost all the way down and the head lights are dimming like crazy. THe numbers on the capcell are 14 if that meens anything. We ended up leaving everything turned way down on the amp because I dont want to ruin anything. Anyways the question I am asking is does anyone know of a high output alternator made for the jeep patriot? Also has anyone installed one yet and if so will it void my warranty? Let me know. Thanks! Also if anyone is running this many watts (2000rms) without a new alternator let me know thx.

If that alt is really 120A and that's all the equipment you're running, you have an install problem. What size is your power wire? Where are the amps grounded? Did you do the Big 3?

Its and 08 Jeep Patriot says its a 120A alternator... We used 0 gauge from the battery to the capcell and 4 gauge from the capcell to the amp. The amp is grounded to the bolt that connects the seat to the metal wich should go to the frame... No big 3...

Try a different ground point for the amp. Go to the floor pan and use a bolt. Clean the paint off of the metal so you have a good clean metal to metal connection.

fox is right. the big 3 is also important. i agree you probably have an installation issue.

the number on the capcell should be the voltage. 14 is good and should not cause dimming. does it stay at 14 during bass hits?

when did this technical thread turn into a gameshow? i third the opinion of an installation issue. there is a possibility your alternator is not putting out what it is supposed to, but being so new its more then likely you have a bad grounding point for that amp. if you have to run the ground wire through the floor and drill its own hole on the frame.

i ran an mb quart raa2400 and 1000 off of my civic's stock 70 amp alt for a while with no dimming or power problems. i also ran a pair of alpine mrv-f545's off the same setup, and a phoenix gold titanium 400.2 and 600.2, without the first sign of dimming. after that, i have trouble going to a HO alt. My 200k+ mile civic's little alt never had an issue.

x2 on rechecking the grounds. If you do ground to the frame, which is a very good way to make sure you have a killer ground, be sure to use a quality grommet when going through the interior. Of course check on brake and fuel lines ahead of time, and you might want to add some silicone to ensure you have a watertight hole. Now that I think about it, you might want to primer the metal where you cut ahead of time to prevent rust as well.
