K so I come here on my spare time to read up on stuff and learn for myself with problems that others come to. I Was looking at the install section and i notice alot of people use that silver stuff on their doors and floors. A lot of car stereo stores sell this stuff but its so fricking expensive, its like $200 for a like 4 square feet.

Is their a cheap way to do my car? 95 VW Golf

What exactly is the purpose of this?

that number is a little exaggerated. sound deadening helps keep road noise out, the music in, and reduces panel vibrations. add some deadening and you will hear the difference.

Sounds like a great deal Crink.

IMHO, sound deadening is awesome. I only partially sound deadened one car. I plan on doing the whole car this time around.

you get what you pay for. one layer of second skin's damplifier pro is the equivalent to at least two, if not three layers of raammat. you do less work, and get better results. i've used raammat bxt and damplifier pro. i like the damplifier better hands down. it's thicker, heavier, and the butyl isn't as gooey.

Disagree....they pay this guy to say this.

negative.

have you used both products? have you looked at them side by side? have you compared the thickness of the aluminum vs the butyl layer?

second skin comes out on top every time. if you don't believe me, check the sound deadener showdown, or the results that andy jones did. It's not just me.

I bought my stuff for $54. Go to a roofing/hardware store and ask for polyken peel and seal foil. It's the same stuff. You will have to strip down the interior to bare metal. Then apply and make sure you have no air bubbles. It takes a lot of time to do a good job. You have to squish the material equally onto the frame. I'd say 20-30 hrs if not more for the whole car.

That stuff is crap. It's thin, smells bad and falls off over time. Buy the right stuff in the first place.

I don't know where your getting your info from because first it does not smell at all and second of all it has not fallen anywhere even when it was really hot. It's the same stuff.

This has been covered before. Peel and seal is asphalt based. It is no where as think as Dynamat and definitly not as think as Damplifier pro. You get what you pay for and your gonna need a few layers of a cheap product to equal one layer of a good product.

Ok well everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It has worked perfectly fine for me. And considered it's at least 1/5 of the price of the other stuff I think it does a good job for the price.

if you sat in a car full of dynamat or second skin you would say otherwise.

I've used a good amount of peal and seal in the past. It has never fallen off on me and I never had a smell. It also doesn't deaden nearly as well as Second Skin,Dynamat and the Schoshe brand deadeners. It isn't even remotely close to the same result. by the time you add enough layers of peal and seal to do what second skin can do, you have spent more money than if you just bought second skin.

I've used Peel and Seal, Dynamat, Accumat, Fatmat, and 2nd Skin... You really do get what you pay for.

Peel and Seal's asphalt base in heat will melt and run in to puddles in your door jams and on the roof will run down and drip everywhere. It's very hard to clean off of leather seats!!!

This is from experiences, I have pictures to prove it.

All these deadners have a temperature rating, so don't be stupid and seal off your whole car in really hot weather. If you have the least of common sense you will leave your windows slightly cracked open.

i live in southern tn, used to live in north al. it gets up to 100 in teh summer. raammat and second skin have had no problem hanging on to my doors in the heat of summer in a black civic, windows up all the time, parked on a black asphalt parking lot. they'll hold up.

i can verify this b/c i went all summer with no door cards on while i worked on the install.

I have lived in the San Joaquin valley where temperatures can go up to 120 or so. If you leave the car sealed, interior temperatures can reach 170-180 degrees if not more. It's like an oven. The moral of the story is yes you get what you pay for.

Not every can afford the price of second skin, and I believe peel and seal is very underrated for the price. Make a choice based on your budget.

but it's already been stated that by the time you buy enough peel n seal to equal the coverage you'd get with SS, it costs as much, if not more.

if you're broke, buy less regular second skin and put it on key areas, and then add more later. no use in using an inferior product that's known to have issues and smell.
