I have a set of focal 165v1s. They sound great, but feels like something is missing... like I'm not getting a good full sound or that they lack midbass too. I dont want to replace them, but thought about adding in another pair of speakers. The other day I was dinking around in my car and added in my old stock 4.5s down by the kick panels. My sound stage actually sounded better. Altho my stocks aren't what you'd call amazing sounding... it was at least a start. What are some options I can look at to fill whats missing? Should I pick up another set of mids to mount in my kicks? Or should I look into an actual "midbass" speaker? Also, are there options I can do in a 4.5in speaker? Or should I just look into 6.5s?

sorry if you mentioned this in another thread - but have you fully deadened and sealed your doors (assuming the midbass is in the door). do that before you start adding speakers.
adding a midrange can work great if its done right, but you need to address your midbass response first.
finally, what are you using for crossovers and do you have a high pass filter on them?

Ohh its alright, I do have this question goin on another forum as well. That way I can get suggestions for a broader group :P. But as far as your questions go, yes I do have my doors sound deadened. Definately helped out to tighten my sound and stop rattles... but just seems like something still is missing. From what I have been reading it seems like adding another mid or mid bass speaker in my kicks might help out... like haveing to do with the mids out off axis since they are just in the doors.

i agree a good kick mounted midrange can yield good results. but it won't help already lacking midbass - for that you need to review crossover settings, acoustical phase, and make sure the doors are sealed, not just deadened.
work on getting good midbass first, that may hash out the other issues. after you're happy with midbass, then work in another driver.
do you have an active crossover that is flexible enough to handle a 3-way front stage?

Well the only crossovers I have are the ones that came with my focals and on my amp. Would I need to get a three way crossover?

you would want a 3-way active crossover and 6 channels of amplification.
a passive crossover would need to be custom, and you have to rebuild it each time to tune it.

ok, maybe you should post your complete setup. also, check the crossover frequency on your amp. also, what's the frequency response of your drivers. it should be w/ the paperwork that came w/ your speakers or on the manufacturers website.
don't forget to listen for correct polarity between left and right. basically, fade to front, sub off if you have one. play music at a fairly loud level. balance all the way to left, then back to center, then right. it should be louder in the center, and lower when you go left or right. if it isn't, your speakers could be out of phase. if they are, take one channel and swap positive and negative.
