I'm new the forum here and in all honesty don't have a ton of "know how" about car audio. I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler and am looking to install four 5.25 speakers. I need something that I can handle strong volume for when I ride with the top down.
Currently I have no amp, but have plans to pick up a Kicker ZX350.4 (4x60watt) and tun the speakers off that. I am running a good Sony Head Unit (52x4) I purchased 4 years ago (300.00 at the time) sorry I do not know the model number off hand.
My questions is which is better? Polk or the JBLs? If anyone has experience with these that would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, my concern is driving with the top off the Jeep. Crutchfield has a great deal on the Polks at the moment (buy one get one 50% off) but the money is not my concern. I want the better speaker. If there is another set you think I should be considering in the same price range (90-120.00) let me know and why.
IMO JBL is better but that's just me. I have used JBL for a long time and have never been let down. But let your ears be the judge of it. If possible go to local dealers and audition them.
Just adding some aftermarket speakers will make it sound better but if you can add a small 2 channel amp and better dash speakers you'll be able to hear the tunes over the wind noise.
A lot of wrangler owners get polk or infinity b/c of the high dB rating. I originally went with Kicker, they were good, then CDT comps which are ok. If you go with JBL you can get them from the harman store on ebay cheap (good DOA policy).
