Every since I saw this deck at the CES 08, I've wanted it. I couldn't buy it due to financial issue but today I finally got it from crutchfield.com.(they had a killer deal on this unit).

My first question has to do with the pink wire, it is on the same harness as the rear speaker connectors. On the diagram, it says "To Cellular Phone Mute". I am guessing it mutes the rear speaker if the phone ring or something. My question is, are you supposed to connect this to something else? I never seen any phone that connects directly up to a car or any accessory for it before.

The next few questions has to do with the Navigation itself.

Text-to-Speech.
I noticed that the unit DOES NOT SAY the street name unless if it is the freeway. It only says "Right turn in .2 miles" or something like that. I thought by now all good GPS system has that feature. Do I have the something turned off or so? If this is how the unit is designed, is it possible for the future update to make it say all street name?

POI
I noticed that every time I search for something under the POI, it would the POI locations in Southern California as default and rout me from somewhere in Socal unless if I enter the MY location. Is there a way for it to search without entering MY location? If I use the 5 closest city feature, it would bring up somewhere in Socal. I live in North Cal btw.

My last question has to do with the DVD map. I tried to make a copy of the DVD map for backups. I used Nero 8 with a Dual Layer DVD+R. I wasted 3 dvds so far trying to make a backup copy. I am able to "rip" the contain, just not able to burn it to the DVD, I would always get an error. Is there some type of Copy protected device on the DVD itself? No I am not planning to make bootleg copy or anything. I know the DVD should be safe inside the Unit, but when you have kids, anything can happen. Since I can't make a backup copy myself, if I loose or damage the DVD, is there a way that I can get a copy without paying full price for it?

I've just installed the unit today and played around with it for a couple hours now. So far I love the unit and its feature. Even though I have stock speakers, I noticed the difference in SQ. I plan to do a full make over on the car and should be done by the end of the year.

So far I like the deck but there are 2 things that you can improve on.
First, I think that categorized search of POI is something handy to have. I hope that you guys can add this feature in a firmware update or something.
Second, the map is just plain ugly. At a glance it is not bad(when I first saw it at CES 08), but after using it for a while it looks pretty bad. In a way it looks "messy". Someone on crutchfield said the map looks like a kid drew it with crayons, and in a way it looks like it. I know Eclipse is not a company that showcase eye candy product, but I think the map could be a little bit better looking.

As far as burning a DVD is concerned, usually these sorts of things have some form of copy protection that interferes with your recording software. Nero is renowned for this. There are, however, free programs out there that bypass the protection, such as PowerISO, that can be downloaded off the net. Also, if you can save the DVD to your computer as an image file, you'll save yourself a DVD, it's less likely to get corrupted and you can burn a new DVD whenever you want.
