i noticed that it came with a small cable that fits in the head phone jack of my mp3 player. there is also an input on the back of the unit for this cord as well. i thought that this was an auxilary input but its not playing when the receiver is on. is this setup not possible? i also saw that there is some type of converter for the aux input that uses the cd-changer input, however it uses rca inputs, how would i hook the mp3 player up to it if i got it?

I spent a minute looking around with no luck to links of pics of the rear wiring of the unit.

What I am sure of is that there is no rear auxiliary input without adding a IP bus auxiliary adapter. My guess is that input you found would be for the hardwired steering wheel remote.

I've heard mixed things about the quality over the IPbus auxiliary adapters but look and see what you can find.

i have found that ip-bus adapter, however, that again doesn't appear to work for me. if i'm not mistaken, it uses the cd-changer input and converts it to rca inputs, again, not the solutions i'm looking for cause i want to hook up phone jack of the mp3, but i do appreciate the reply and letting me know what that input was for. maybe i just can't do what i want to. i know all these new units and even the lower model pioneers have the input jack i am looking for, but don't want to get a new headunit. \:\(

Actually it should work fine. I have cables that have a male 3.5mm stereo connector on one end and RCAs on the other. You should be able to find them online or at a radioshack. It's probably worth a look for the $10 or $20. I think it would do along the lines of what you want.

So i bought the pioneer ip-bus and the 3.5mm mic to RCA cables and installed it in my car. i am very happy with this purchase, since i can now conveniently use my mp3 player and have instant access to 10GB of music. the only problem i have is that input from the mp3 player isn't as strong as the CD or FM signals, but the SLA (source level adjustment) on my deck allows me to fix that imbalance. the unit also allows the hook up of the CD changer, though i don't plan on using it.
