make plans in atlanta. have them involve you competing in a show. let a cousin pay your entry fee as a gift. compete in every organization since he's footing the bill.

We'll see. Heck, right now I don't even have midbasses. Hope the 12m's can play to 63hz.

I really don't get why you can't get the Dyns to work. I have heard cars with those speakers that will shake your soul. Seriously. Somewhere you are doing something wrong either in the setup or installation of those speakers.
hell just look at Thumper's car with those same drivers. A bit of work and I'd turn his subs off.

Maybe there was something wrong with the install. Maybe it’s my car. After J himself did the install they still weren’t doing jack. There’s a lot of possibilities.
I got them to work eventually. Actually, after I removed the Alpines I dropped the Dyns back in. I had re-done the speaker rings/install. The dyns came to life then, but the f1’s still had more impact.
At this point, I’m hoping to get with Scott and do an AP install with the 4ohm Scans. After that, I’m done. I don’t care what it sounds like, it’ll get tuned and I’m rolling with it. I’m just ready to see my car put back together and in one piece again.

Have you spoken with Scott about doing an AP enclosure inside your door? I know that sounds easy---but it isn't. Ricky's doors are the way you want to do that, but he has the ability and the access to equipment/technology that allow him to make it easy.
I've done it the wood/fiberglass way. It isn't fun at all.
It would be easier to do floorpods, cut the floor open and vent them that way. You also wouldn't have to deal with door panels anymore.

I sent him an e-mail a couple days ago and asked if he’d be able to help me with it. He said he could. That’s really the extent of the talking. I’ve read a few tutorials on doing AP enclosures and understand the logic behind them. It’s just the fabrication that I’m concerned with, as you pointed out. Especially having never done it before. You know that I suck at fabrication; that’s obvious. So I definitely need some guidance, but am willing to do anything I can so I can learn how to do it.
Floorpods: You really think it’d be easier? I would think it’d be harder to do that route. When you say ‘vent’ is that not, in a sense, free-airing them? Surely you’re not meaning that as you’ve said never to IB them. I would think it’d be harder to put them in the floor area: I’d have to protect the speakers from the elements, and another issue would be making sure they’re protected yet can pass sound. Getting up into 200hz the wavelength shortens and it seems to me that would be an issue, where it wouldn’t be with subwoofer frequencies. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding you here. ?
...and you'd be modex+ in MECA, along with Andy and Steve Cook. Just something to think about.
Man, I don’t care, honestly. I’m already in that just due to the 3-way alone. Truthfully, I don’t expect to win. My car is more of a daily driver type setup. I do, however, want to compete so that I can get it sounding better and better. Maybe eventually get to the point where I can ‘compete’ with Andy and Steve, but you know me well enough to know I’m not stressing over that right now.
I'm just ready to finish putting this car together. I'm about to buy land, and I've got to start saving for a house. The sooner I can get the car wrapped up, the sooner I can start devoting my budget to something more useful than my car. I'm sure you guys understand. I really just want to be able to drive to a comp, put my car in, hang out with you guys, get some tips on how to make things better, and come back home. That's the real goal for me. Not to go out and win comps; just to enjoy the hobby instead of using all my available time working on it.

i think andy meant the dyns in kicks, not the scans.

Dyns are already gone.
I pulled up Matt Robert's install on DIY. If Andy was talking about doing something like Matt has, then I see it. Matt's floorpods are still AP vented. I really, really like the idea of moving the midbasses out of the doors but I don't think I have the real estate in the floor.

Mine are done like Matt's are done. They hammer. That is exactly what I was talking about. If my car has the room for that, so does yours. It just takes the ability to cut the floor, and then mold it in.
I hope you didn't trade the Dyns for those F#1's

Oh, Andy, did you do that install yourself or was that something you had Jeff do? If you have build pics I’d like to see them.
I’m curious how you protect them from your feet. I’m VERY bad about shoving my feet into the floorboard when I drive so I can sit up and get situated. I have to shift around a lot when I drive b/c of my back so I’d worry about shoving my foot into the speaker if it’s anywhere in that vicinity.

Scott,
I'm going to figure out rooms this week sometime. I think we have myself, Rick, Thumper, Steve, Robert and you so far that will need a room. Maybe Ben also, but not sure on that yet. I don't think any of the Schil guys are going besides Kirk and Dave--they usually stay with the Zapco people---but I'll be checking with them.

We were wondering if you were coming.
Anyone heard who is doing the MECA judging yet?
Pretty sure it's David, and Kirk. I'm just guessing based on the judges listed on the CAN site.

i have some, they just need to be uploaded. the place had the same lighting as elite, so all the indoor pics are yellow looking.
There were some INCREDIBLE cars. I finally got to see Mark Eldridge's Nascar. The thing is insane.

I came in 2nd in Street+ by 1.2 points to Aaron. I got prolly some of the best criticism of my car all year, and have some clear paths on what to do to fix the problems and make it better. I'm undecided on going to AL state finals, but if I do hopefully it'll be a lot more on.
In CAN, I came in 4th place. I couldn't believe it. They were calling out the names and when they got to the top 10, I assumed they overlooked mine. I was floored. That show really helped jumpstart me. It's been a crazy summer, and I was starting to lose focus. I'm all kinds of motivated right now.

I am not sure. Q is SQ only and the scores over 210 are the full comp with install. I think Q is 210-220 total. Andy should know exactly.

yeah, I was floored to see what can be done with a 2 way. When I started competing, I had always planned on going 3 way next year, but now seeing what can be done, I'm pretty happy with what I have. I'd like to go Modified so I can play with acoustic treatments more, but that's about the only reason.
One of my highlights of the weekend was when a judge got out of my car and asked me what midrange I was running. When I told him it was just a two way with 6.5's in the doors, he looked confused for a couple of seconds.
...then Dave got in and helped me point out everything I need to work on.

Well we could just call him Kirkus Magnus. Or just Kong. Or we could call him 2nd in the points standings. It takes Steve a day or two to get my IASCA POINTS SHARING up. Enjoy it for the day I allowed it. I guess the car will play more than Spanish Harlem. From both seats. KELP III
OMG! Now that is some funny Shizzt.

ya never know. *shrugs*
I was somewhat kidding… placing emphasis on cleaning my car as it looks rough inside. I need to buy seat covers. Buying a car with tan interior was a huge mistake on my part.

i don't think there is any way you could get them with only two big shows left in the season, and you being in modex+ with andy and steve.
however, you should still come. like andy put it, it's like playing basketball with jordan. it only makes you better. as much as i gripe about aaron and kirk, my car wouldn't sound near as good and i wouldn't know near as much as i do if i was in regular street. get as much exposure as you can and come out of the gate full force next season. you live too close to too many strong sq champs to not be a serious contender next year.

There are 5 3X shows left. AL, SC, KY, TN, & IN state finals. Plenty of points left. You just have to travel.
Johnny-Why am I full of shyt? You spanked me on Saturday. I was the first one to make sure they didn't make a mistake. Just unlucky for you they dropped high and low. Otherwise you officialy won. I consider it a win for you. I told you congrats, shook your hand, partied with you Saturday night and everything.
I am sure next year I will get spanked several times before I get the Nitro right. Who knows, it may never be competitive or it may be killer. No way to tell.

I can make the TN state finals. The others are out, except maybe Shepherdsville, KY.
So, looks like the World's are definately out. But, I'll be there to hang out. Maybe I can catch a ride with someone?

Kirk, i have the distinct feeling it will be more killer than not. Just given your abilty and expirience. That said are you likely to compete at TN finals? I want one last shot before world finals to see where I stack up against you, cause face it, you're still the 3 time defending world champ, which means you get the target we all aim for.

from what i heard you won't have to do much. i'd hit dave up and get him to give you a clinic on what you need to work on. don't let him tune it, or do if you want to win, but see if you can hear the things he says are wrong before you let him get to fixing stuff. you have a good install now, it's time to start training your ears.

I'm planning on doing this all on my own.
Maybe it's that I've been driving my wife's car, but it sounded to me that the image was centered in front of me and not the dash. I'm going to keep Steve's settings on one preset, but do my own, too. I want to be able to figure things out on my own and let someone tell me what they think about my job. If I goof it up, I'll have Steve's settings to fall back on if needed.
Check my build thread on diy. I have a few pics up of the final product. He did an amazing job. Should have build pics Sunday as we didn't have anything to transfer them to today.

Be careful with the center. He may have set it up with the seat back all the way. We all tend to do that so anybody can get in the car and listen + it will get you back away from the speakers a little. Try it an see.

^ yup.
slide the seat all the way back, and mess with reclining it until you see a compromise in stage height.
use alpines formula for time alignment as a starter, then trust your ears from there.

SQ2 is an open class as World Finals which means no points required. Just need to be a MECA member.

I know when I get in some cars the first thing I think is "do they drive like this?".
At this point a c701 would come in handy. If I'm sitting back in my car that far away from the dash it's going to be a pain to keep reaching for my h/u. Looks like I'll be investing in a c701 soon...

Pushing the seat itself back isn't the issue. It's just when it's tilted back far that I have a problem. I typically drive with the seat all the way back on the rails, and tilted about 15* back.
