I am thinking of upgrading my Audio Control EQX.

The problem with it is it a pain to dial it in. Then I get it set only to have my sub vibrate the piss out of it and have all my setting constantly changing.

So going digital is a interesting option. How good is it?? I really am not excited about spending $1150 on a new head unit (DVA-9965) but it looks like my options are limited on what head units will control it.
The 9860 and 9861 are discontinued and I searched online only to see that no one has them anymore.

Is it worth it. If they are that great then yeah maybe I'll do it.
Or are there other companies that sell something as good and I don't have to shell out an extra $250 to to get a control too.

I have two of them with controllers. I believe at the price point, there is nothing else out there that compares to it. Controlling it through the 9861 is just a pain. It's possible, but not pleasant. Look for a used one if you want to save a little more money. The best option for control other than the RUX-C701 controller is the double din units. I still like using the controller even though I have a W205 double din.

There are better processors out there, but most cost at least twice what the H701 costs.

Thanks. That probably all I needed to hear.

I do not have room for the double Din and will just simply have to find room for the RUX-C701 controller somewhere.

Thanks for the advice.

You don't have to find room for the rux controller. Once you tune with the rux controller you can unplug it and the settings are saved in the 701. It doesn't have to be connected.

I also own two of the 701s. I took it out recently, but in my last system, I had the cable run from the 701 to the center console. I plugged in the rux controller for tuning sessions. then unplugged it and left it at my house after that.

I'll third using the RUX controller. I drilled a hole in the bottom of my center console, and the controller just sits in there when I'm not using it.

I believe there's a 701 and controller for sale around $430 on diymobileaudio.com right now. You might also want to check ebay.

Even though I have the 9965 HU, I still like the RUX for an even easier way to control the 701. My only complaint is my own fault. I installed the RUX in my center console, so I have to continually lean forward to make adjustments. But I have to admit since this is also a show vehicle, the RUX is a nice piece to look at mounted in the console.

^go back and modify the mounting system to allow you to remove it, hold it in your lap to tune. Trying to do detail tuning leaning up and back is a major PITA.

or if you can get to your 701 brain, you could by an extra controller and just plug it in to tune, then unplug it when done. Kind of a waste but it would work .

Truth. I just ordered a c701 because I was tired of leaning back and forth to use the w505. I don't feel like ripping up carpet so I'll just run it from the h701 to the inside of the car as needed. pretty much, it'll stay bundled up in the glovebox all the time.

You better lock your glovebox or never doing install judging. That is connected to your audio system. Bad things happen to your scores when you have loose gear laying around.

^ good point.

Though, I won't compete in install. So, does it matter in that case?

In a couple months I’ll run the c701 to the console but for now I just don’t care to bother. All my intention is to simply open the trunk, run the cable through my back door and use it. Then when I’m done, roll the cable back up, close the trunk and put the 2 in the glovebox or console until I need to use it again.

No. It doesn't matter then. But if you do IASCA or USACi, it will matter. As long at the cable isn't connected, it is ok. If something is connected to the H701 and then just laying in the glovebox, I will be happy to deduct points. :-)

^by the time you found that in the glove compartment of his car, you would have already patted him on the head and said "bless your heart" as the score was headed into the negatives \:o

That would probably be my first ever negative score. :-) Unless you count some peoples cars I have judged that forget simple things like Fuses.

I do the same trick with the controller for the audio control DQX, I connect the controller (the box is in the trunk) and run the wire up front to the drivers seat or outside for rta tuning.
