Well I just can't make sense out of this bypass module. I refuse to go cutting into my harness until I have everything figured out too.

1. I've been reading the 556h module instructions and they are terrible. The harness in their diagram (for mode 2) does not have the pins #'d, nor have I been able to find the exact colors I should be looking at in my car to make sure I'm at the right place. (All the wiring schematics I have received and found don't talk about the DATA1, DATA2, and REFERENCE wires referred to in the 556h manual)

2. I bought the 556h because I was told it was the same thing as the 555h. So I consulted the 555h manual someone sent me and it is a better manual, but unfortunately the wiring is different.

Anyway, if someone has experience with this model car and knows the color wires for the three listed above that would be a great help. Thanks.

Did you remove the plastic cover on your steering column? The harness you need is at the key switch housing.

Yes, whole car is disassembled \:D

I see the connector I think it is:

problem is that it does have 7 wires, but in a harness with two rows of 4 versus the DEI diagram that shows 7 pins straight across. Also, DEI's diagram doesn't show the colors in the harness:

There should be a small (4 pin I think) green harness for the immobilizer. There is only two plugs off the key cylinder. Heavy gauge for power and a small harness for the bypass.

OK, thanks...

For when you get back, these are the harnesses I have. A 4-pin one with a lock (so I didn't remove it). And a 5-pin one (removed).

1. Brown/Yellow (negative)
2. Red/Blue (data)
6. Black/Yellow (ignition)

Don't count wires. Count pin numbers on the molex plug.

Thanks a lot for getting back to me. I'm just not getting it I guess. But I'll keep researching it.

Hope work wasn't too stressful today!

Remember back to when I told you the key in the box method would be the easy way to go.

Indeed I do! (me = stubborn :/)

I also keep reminding myself that "Someone in this forum did $900 of damage to their car"!

I'm just really overwhelmed. Thought I had a great bench prep job going and now this. DEI seems to have a bad habit of calling wires one thing in one place and then something different later on. Maybe they're looking to hire a new tech document preparer? \:\)

(New Development: My car doesn't have the infamous blue wire at the door lock control for "Disarm No Unlock" :/)

As a professional I haven't had any problem with their manuals.

If your car does not have the disarm then it might not have a factory alarm afterall.

That's what I was I thinking... but it definitely has a stock one. Will keep probing.

I figured out the 556h now I think... I have to apologize for being a dumbass. I wasn't clicking that the REFERENCE was one of two possible grounds, and I was completely interpreting the table wrong. Your color notes helped me see the instructions correctly. Here is what I drew to clarify it in my head:

Remember the notes about factory alarm on the tech sheet. One trim level is arm and disarm with remote only. The other is disarm in the door at the lock module.

When it comes to the 556H read the instructions and follow them. I don't want to be responsible if you make a mistake.

Yes. I have the EX model. Should have the blue wire at the door lock switch in the driver's door according the tech sheet. But I'll figure it out \:\)

I understand. But I would appreciate it if you ever see a glaring error in a drawing to point it out!

Looks good to me.

The disarm wire will only test when you turn the door cylinder with key to unlock.

Indeed that was the trick. It was the blue wire in the power window plug.

Thanks

556H is in and working.... it's a beautiful thing! Didn't work when I followed the instructions the first two times... worked like a charm the third time when I programmed the module and first manually started the car before remote starting it.

(One last time..... THANK YOU MURPH! :P)

OK. I didn't really take pictures since it was an alarm and kinda "stealhy" \:\) You mean a DIY article on the alarm or just the bypass module?
