I'm pretty much ready to purchase a Viper 791xv. I wanted the 5900 for the 1-mile range, but I just can't keep it under $200 with the bypass sensor and glass break sensor. Anyway, once I order, I'll need a good supply of splice and male & female connectors. Wondering who the best source is for good quality items?
I typically solder what I can in my auto installs, but I figure connectors will be the way to go for my alarm/remote start install. I'm very open to any advice/help anyone wants to give. Thanks.

Take the time to do it right the first time. Plan a weekend with nothing to do but work on your alarm. No interruptions, no stopping and starting and no I'll do enough now and finish it later.
1. Take the car apart. 2. Use your DMM to locate and test all wires needed. 3. Find locations for the brain, siren, immobilizer and any extra sensors. 4. Do a through bench prep and remove any wires not needed. 5. Install the siren, hood pin and tach connection and run them into the car. 6. Mount the brain and run the wires to each location where they will be connected. 7. run the antenna and install the LED 8. Connect the ground. 9. Connect all the under hood wires to the alarm. 10. Connect the parking lights and door trigger. 11. Connect the brake wire. 12. Connect all ignition connections. 13. Mount the shock sensor 14. Program the tach. 15. Test the remote start with the key in the ignition. 16. If it starts and runs then install the 555h. 17. Test the shock sensor. 18. Put the car pack together and enjoy.

Good Good advice! You make it sound easy! <grin>
One thing you brought up got me thinking.... "Install ... the hood pin". I was hoping I can tap off an existing wire for that. I'm pretty sure I have a sensor there because the car's stock alarm won't arm if it is popped up. Sound feasible?

I never trust stock pins myself. Test it and see if it will work.

OK. It's added to my list of things to do. (On top of the 58 page manual! <gasp>)

you will need terminals though if you use a relay. and if using a bypass i dont bother soldering conections that go to the remote starters brain just use crimp caps they are Ma connections. solder LL the power, ign, acc wires. terminals at http://www.partsexpress.com ...

splaudio: Thanks for the advice and link!
I don't think I'm going to need any extra relays. But at this point I am starting to get a little overwhelmed. Once I can finally get all the parts ordered and know what exactly I'm getting I'll be able to dissect all the install manuals

Blah........ Ground and making relay harnesses only for me. Crimps are not stealthy for security.
Does anyone know of any sites that document (with photos) a really clean alarm install? I have the way I (used) to do things, but I'm always looking for ways to improve!

I prefer sockets but an insulated female spade will work on low current applications. I just hate crimping wires together in security. It's not clean or stealth.

most sockets are just an insulated female spade with a 14 gauge wire on it usually.
I crimp all my own and they look as good or better than a socket and I can use the corect size wire and female spade for the application. Sockets also cost money!!
