Hi everyone. Really hoping i get some help/replies with this post. I'm getting ready to order an alarm for my 2002 Honda Accord EX, 4 cylinder, coupe. I am pretty sure I'm going with the < color=#ffffff>Viper 791XV (or the Viper 5900 maybe if I am sure I won't need to purchase a lot of extra modules--trying to stay at my $200 budget.
That being said:
1. I'm curious if anyone would suggest a different alarm? I want 2-way communication, (preferably 2) LED remote, remote start, soft-chirp confirmation (I think both Vipers have this) and the ability to still have my door lock/unlock and truck pop. I wanted a glass break sensor but I guess the Viper just gives you a shock sensor that should cover glass breaks.
2. On my EX model I have the key immobilizer. A store I talked to told me I would "lose a key" because they put the chip near the computer when they install starts. I really don't want to do this. I would like to just be able to "trick" the system for the purpose of the remote start, but still have the key sensor active normally. Is this possible with a bypass unit? I saw some model #'s of ones in the wiring section, but am not sure of a good vendor to order from. Ideas?
3. I'm pretty comfortable with all the wiring, but it has been a long time since I did a alarm/started (10+ years!). Any caveats I should be aware of? Any chance anyone knows of a site that documents a similar install with photos?
Thanks everyone... i realize this is a rather long post!

The 791 is a good alarm but you better buy a second remote now. Since you are buying without a warranty add another $100 because you will need it.
There are two types of immobilizer bypass modules for your car. The universal where you lose a key or a data module that programs in as another key.
Go the key in the box method unless you know what you are doing with data. A member here did $900 worth of damage to his BCM trying to save a buck.
Retail with install 5900 $500 Bypass module $99 Glass break sensor $50

Thanks. Good advice indeed!
I appreciate the immobilizer info. Unfortunately I only have one key now and they're about $60 at the dealer I think.
In case I wasn't clear, I am planning on doing the install myself. Now the immobilizer bypass programming I "think" I can do but am not sure.
I forgot that Vipers are typically dealer installed. Is that was you were referring to with "Without a warranty"? Do you think I would be better going with a different brand so that I have the option of being able to call their tech support people?
Thanks again.

Most companies don't support DIY because of the liabilities. You can use a 555H and not lose a key. There is no way to trick the car. Use the right part for the job.

If you only have one key then spend the $60 for a spare key. If you lose your only key you will be screwed.

Great. Thanks!
Will this immobilizer work with any alarm I choose? I thought I would go with the Viper but then I read some of the other forum posts and now I'm even more lost!

Great thanks (again). I just was looking through the Directed website and it was sure overwhelming. So many brands and they all seem the same after awhile. I think I will need to purchase a slightly older model (like the Viper 791xv I found for $140). I really hate my horn confirmation now--too loud! Do you know if the Vipers have a soft chirp feature (I can't find anyplace that says so), or should I by a second soft chirp siren to use with the horn output?

look into this as an option in case you dont get the DEI unit
www.autopageusa.com
c3-rs-727lcd
comes with 2 remotes already, and will do everything you mentioned, add an SIS-12 sensor to it and theres your glass break in addition to impact sensor.
just as an option, please dont think im spamming

Thanks for the information and replying. I have already chosen the DEI Viper 5900 though.
