What year Beetle are we talking about here. I've never built a Beetle but I've seen a few at the shows. I had some old pictures of a 70's model Super Beetle that was used in SQ competition. It used kick panel pods and had the sub in the front with a pass through into the cabin. I'll see if I can dig around and find those.
This is a nice setup from Europe using a newer model Beetle. Beetle build log

Old school beetle, I would look to Rich Coe. Find some build pics of his versions. he was the master of that car.
new beetle--I would look to Nick Wingate's beetle. Pictures should be floating around for it.
The new beetles have an awesome dash. You could do some fun things with. Old school beetles---for some reason those things just beg for a curved wall. Even for SQ I'd do it. i would also punt on the original dash and do something one off in it.
How hardcore are we talking about? Like I want to have the SQ to win IASCA/USACi/MECA expert level class SQ. Or I want an incredible demo vehicle that sounds great?

It's typical VW, so expect decent deadening from the factory, but also panel rattles when you put it back together. There are pictures floating around the web of the Euro champ DLS Beetle. It's lime green with all DLS and an Alpine head.
What equipment is going into it?
