Alright. I bought a Kenwood EQ(Kenwood KGC-4042A) from a friend. It was brand new, the box hadnt even been open. He wrecked his truck before he had a chance to install it.
Heres my question. Its got 3 sets of RCA outs on it. I know where they go. The cd player has 3 sets of RCA outs on it(Kenwood Excelon somthing, I forget). The EQ has on set of RCA inputs on it. How do I go about hooking the EQ up to the cd player? I know I need a short set of male cables. I dont know where on the radio to plug them.

Most people just use the front outputs on the HU, set the fader on the HU to front, then use the EQ fader and sub level control instead of the HU controls.

while we're talking about Eq's and outputs and inputs...
im planning an install right now. not sure which HU yet, but id always pay the extra for one with a Front, Read, and Sub output. so thats 3 outputs.
i was going to use the AudioControl Three.1 indash EQ, which has ONE LR input, and THREE outputs (front, rear, sub).
THEN front there, each output into an AudioControl EQS. 3 different sets of equalizing for the front, rear, and sub.
will doing what you said: using the Front outputs, fader set to the Front... will that compromise sound? id feel a hell of a lot better if the Three.1 accepted front, rear, AND sub inputs.
any "other" indash Eq suggestions?.. then i could continue using the EQS and just keep everything in its own path.

most dash mounted eq's will only have one set of inputs and F/R/S outputs. that's just the way it is. In my opinion, your best bet is to run the sub from the HU sub out and the EQ from the HU front out. Then let the EQ feed the front and rears (if you have rears).
Sometimes it makes sense to feed the sub from your dash EQ when it has good sub amp controls (i.e. crossover, level, eq).
It's also nice having dedicated EQ's for each speaker, something the EQS can give you. The main issue with locating an EQS up front is space. You could put the EQS in your glove box and have accessible controls. Tuning with a trunk mounted EQ is difficult since you can't hear the change instantly. Adjusting with the dash EQ can get you close, then you can adjust the trunk EQ then zero the dash EQ, but it's a hassle.
you will not compromise any sound using front outputs only. the signal is the same for front and rear, the only difference with the sub out is that it has independent level control on the HU (and sometimes a built-in crossover).

they are like pure magic in the car. I loved mine. If it weren't custom installed in the car when i sold it, I'd still have it.

Are you talking about the real symmetry or the EPX2 stuff?
If the later---it is outdated and not nearly as flexible as other stuff on the market. If it is the real symmetry, from what I remember that is well made, but I don't remember the specs on it as far as flexibility.
