So I have this 4000DVD unit in my 07 Civic. It has only front and rear/sub channels at 2V, and I am running Y splitters at the 4 channel amp.
I haven't been able to find a setting I can live with on the deck itself, and was thinking of installing the Four.1.
If it was your car, would you?
I did install it, but because of the RCAs I use, I lost sub control because I ran the RCAs out of the Four.1 itself because they are all in one loom. So I ran the RCAs back to the deck.
However, if I bought another RCA2 channel cable I would gain the proper 4 channel to the amp, eliminating y splitters.
I would want to use the pioneer for master volume, although you are suppose to use the Four.1...But would having MAX VOL on the Four.1 and using the VOL on the 4000DVD work?

Well,
1. Any hiss from 2V, hopefully the 9V will clean up the front stage some.
2. My fade and all that is messed up because of the Y splitters. So I hope to get a true Front L/R and Rear L/R out of the Four.1 while using the stock deck for sub controls.
3. More control by using the EQ in the Four.1 instead of the crappy 3 way inside the deck.
Not sure if I'd run into a problem using the main deck for VOL instead of the Four.1....me thinks I will though because you program the Four.1 with deck VOL at a full 40/40 and it says to use 4.1. If I ran 4.1 at FULL and deck at 20/40 on average it would probably defeat the purpose of getting a cleaner signal.

if you turn the deck volume all the way up and use the four.1 as a master vol, then your subs will be maxed out al the time. I think the three.1 has a corssover and sub out built in, might be a better unit for your needs

I agree a three.1 may be what you want. that way you can leave the HU volume at a level where hiss is non existent. then use the three.1 volume control for all speakers.
or you can use the four.1 or three.1 by setting it's volume control at one place and using the HU volume control. it's another signal level setting. either way you should achieve the same result. you will reach a point where you will max out the voltage the amp can accept.
what amp(s) are you using for front/rear/sub speakers? can they accept a 9V signal?

I've found a spot that sounds okay...so maybe I won't have to use the 4.1
But I am running a not so good Power Acoustik Sapphire series amp...4 channel, 80x4@4ohms
And a MA AUdio HK401-SX....I know I need a better amp, and might use the PPI4800 I have to run the comp set...but it's in my other car...a bigger car, with a better electrical upgrade, so running it in my Civic might not be the best.
