Hi guys,
Ive recently hooked up three headrest monitors (not mounted yet) to my head unit thru a video signal splitter, and found that video signal im sending the monitors is actually grounding them...is this normal?
I hooked up positive, then negative to all monitor's, then the signal, and they were working, but i accidentally pulled the negative cable loose, and it disconnected all monitors, but they remained on... and only turned off when i disconnected the video signal, and turned back on upon reconnecting it.
I dont mind if this happens, as they are all turned on and off via a switch hooked to positive, but i just want to make sure its not damaging to my equipment...

I did notice that all three of them were fuzzy, but actually thought it may have been my brand choice...but now that i think about it i do remember the resolution clearing up a few times...
The dash monitor is mounted, and set and everything, but its still grounding thru the video leads...if i have its proper ground connected, will it use that instead of the video leads? is there some way to tell?

Try connecting them 1 at a time without the splitter. Maybe the splitter is bad.

I figure the picture would look fuzzy. You saw lines across the image? That's a ground noise. Just like a buzz in speakers. In video it appears as lines on the image.
Like I said, properly ground them and they "noise" on the screen should go away. Make sure the ground is secure, it can damage the system if not.

perfectly normal. all grounds are the same potential (in most systems) and should be that way. Now, the question remains, is it healthy for your system? probably not. I wouldn't count on the video neg at a good ground.
