I have the Pioneer avh-p4000dvd and as a lot know the eq on it is pretty basic. I want to get an external unit to help enhance my sq overall (music & dvds) and found this:

But I'm not sure if this is JUST for getting surround sound while watching a movie or will this help enhance my sq while playing music as well?
If NOT:
What could I get (besides different/better HU) to enhance my sq?
I already upgraded my speakers, wires, got an amp for the speakers, and dynamatted the doors.

What equipment do you have? List it all.
Also when you say "enchance my sq" what exactly are you trying to improve?

I have:
HU: Pioneer Avh-p4000dvd
Fs: Alpine Spr-13s
Bs: Alpine Spr-57c
Speaker amp: Alpine Mrp-f550
Sub: Rockford Fosgate Power series Hx2
Sub Amp: Phoenix Gold Xenon 600.1
4-doors dead with Dynamat extreme
Monster wire 16g for speakers
4g for sub amp power
8g for speaker amp power
power/neg distro blocks
I basically want the best sound quality I can get without breaking the bank (I spent a good deal, but not insane amount)
This is NOT for competition but for personal use. I want to make it the best possible without getting too crazy (i'm not spending 10k, more like 2-3k)
Do I need an equalizer not a processor? or are they the same thing?!? I am newer to this so elementary descriptions preffered ;o)

Well, it's an interesting story (well not really lol), I JUST installed my entire system (not me, the prof. ppl) and after the fact they realized the amp was faulty....So....I haven't actually heard it yet...;o( Blows big time, but thats ebay for you! They heard it and said it sounds killer.
Right now My amp is being sent out for warranty exchange that I won't get until tuesday or wed. I plan on buying a super cheap amp at Pepboys tommorrow to hold me until then.
anyways I am mainly asking for knowledge, and seeing what else (parts wise) I need to create a super High quality, clean sounding system.

i agree, wait until you get everything running and then decide if you don't like how it sounds.
as far as comparing it to sq goes, the only thing i can really recommend is to go to a relatively big sq oriented car show and try to listen to some cars that have been doing it for a while. that'll give you a good reference of what good sq is and then from there you can decide how close you want to try and get to that.
